I just gave you a list...... and now you change it to "own".... which is kinda stupid when you're in debt to China over $4.4 trillion.....
anyway,
Bentley - made in Crewe, England proof
Rolls Royce - Goodwood, England
Morgan - a kit car?? dunno why i even continue when you are so ignorant.....
Mini - Bristol, England proof
oh, and Lotus, they make these.....
What does that have to do with engineering or building exotic six figure cars?

"And to the retard from Britain, Munro or whatever. Seriously, what the fuck does your country even build any more? I know you will throw some F! teams and whatever but how is your car industry? Motorcycle? Planes? Shipyards? Manufacturing? Before you go all Euro on this topic and fuck it up get your shit straight first. "
oh, and that Lotus is only five figures
Sorry, it wasn't even a response to you. It was a response to how this off track from volume production to cool bikes someone might cobble together. That's talking about Accords and Malibus, not Lotus's or other exotics. Yup people might be able to cobble together a all US made bike. Maybe even someone could build ten US-made $75K from scratch bikes, the equivalent to a Mclaren.
The are engineers from every country in the world passionate about pushing the limits on engine, chassis and design, and the production market for actual products is saturated and small.
a definite trigger that certainly warranted the four-letter outburst..... uh huh
"Seriously and you can shout and scream all you like with the responses but America as a whole just isn't any good at Engineering is it? And it is nothing to do with rates or labour or anything like that, it's just not had the attention of other sciences.
If you look at the history of your auto it's not great, sure you have Harley and there have been other gems across time but en-mass nothing is that well engineered and the majority of the world simply do it better. take a small v6 from Japan or Germany and compare it to a big V8 from America - you (mass generalisation I know) can't even get close to the efficiency, power output, reliability etc on offer, why a country so large cannot do this is beyond me and probably the rest of the world - with the resource on offer America really should be doing better in my opinion. "
And if you want to get in the gutter with someone provoked by it, have at it. There were plenty of other reasonable reactions that contest the original Brits ignorant statement about American engineering, including mine. If you are hot to have a go at me, fine.
So, to the story, three of my uncles served in the RAF or RCAF in WWII. One of them was a mechanic who worked on the Rolls Royce Merlin engines for a variety of allied aircraft. One of the great aircraft engines of all time, partuclarly after the Ford of England redesign for mass production. I spoke to him a month ago and he told me how trick the English built engines were. Custom bolts for different locations on manifolds and joints, which required a mechanic to have a large kit readily at hand. Metal to metal head/cylinder and other mating surfaces without using gaskets, which performed marvelously when perfect and terrible with the least flaw from use or improper tolerances. They were beautiful and tempermental, not the best combination for mass war production and maintenance for pilots putting ther necks on the line. On the other hand, manufacture of a certain number of engines was contracted out to Packard in the US. These engines, he said, used standard bolts everywhere so a mechanics could work quickly with a small kit, and used gaskets, which proved to be far more reliable and consistent. One was essentially a works engine and the other a production engine. Which was optimal depended on the end use. It wasn't a question of the engineering, the underlying design was the same, but the ability to produce and maintain a product that met the end need. A works engine wasn't cutting it with the demands of combat and mass production.
The same sort of distinction works here. If we want to talk about a limited run of exotics destined for a small group of probably highly motivated customers, that's one thing (whether cars or bikes). If you want to mass produce a bike, especially the sort of lower cost, high performance machine many here have been advocating, that's another, especially if you're not borrowing parts from other brands. I don't doubt that Mitch could do an incredible bike from all-American components without a huge investment in production infrastructure. And he might find 25 people, maybe, who would pay the freight. Ask him again if he wanted to absorb the risk of developing the capability to build a run of 5,000 and I think the chances are nil.

Wernher von Braun defecting gave you the basics and a team of Canadians from the avro project were invaluable to designing the mercury rockets, gemini rockets, lunar lander, and later providing oversight to the apollo rockets, and the shuttle program.
The rockets that went to the moon may have had the stars and stripes on them, but they weren't solely the work of American engineers.
About the cost of labour... Look at KTM, Austria is not really a 3rd world country
The question you ask is a very good one. I honestly don't have a clue. I am pretty sure there is history involved.
When you watch the movie: On Any Sunday 1 they kinda make fun of a japanese bike (it broke). But a few years later everyone was on japanese bikes. This is because propably because of the price and quality of those bikes compared to what was offered at the time.
I think there is surely a market for US made motocross bikes.
Specifically from a "Labor" stand-point.
Besides Harley and their aborted attempt I can't see any other company stepping into that arena in the US. Especially if they study the Cannondale model's outcome.
As far as engineering goes each country has it's claim to fame. I will say that I am often surprised and impressed at the number of very clever inventions and innovations the Brits have done this century. And yes NASA and the defense industry are great American engineering feats but I think the euros with F1 and the great car names produced over the years may have us trumped in the car arenas.

So any of you saying it is stupid or impossible are wrong! As long as you have machines to make parts, you can make EVERYTHING on a motorcycle accept for a few parts on a mill and lathe. Also you can cast..... So hate on!!!
All the manufacturers that produce and sell adult mx bikes sell in the countries all over the world so the products have to be suitible for those markets. Thats why F150 pick ups dont fly of the show room floors in europe and asia they just dont fulfil what those customers want.
In short I dont think the US couldnt make a decent bike I just think no one would want to waste the time and millions to sell a few hundred dirtbikes for $7000. You would need to make it good enough to sell everywhere.
They couldn't keep it simple. The engineers just had to show how smart they were.
Instead of playing the game they way it's done in the real world, that is spy and copy everything you can,
no, they went and made a overweight, overly complex machine that no one could afford.
We're just too lazy. Life is just too good to go out and put 40 hrs a week on some assembly line.
Unless we're getting 65 an hour with bennies, that is.
Oh, to the Brits that are taking jabs at our country. Your poking an angry bear with a stick, especially right now. We may be a country that's currently torn apart, but that's a sure way to get us to pull together, so shut your pie holes!
Post a reply to: Why has USA never produced a vollume selling Motocross Bike?
