F's so much fun to watch. Is it because there is no real set pattern on who will do well? Other than RV for the most part you never know who is going to be fast week to week.
Plus I just enjoy watching those guys work their bikes around the track.
I really wish they just had one 250 class where the factories could bring works bikes and then a stock class for the new guys.

Had to be done just Had too.
There a lot to be said for that. I think the racing is better because they're wringing them out and not so preoccupied with controlling the bike. Bigger guys would suffer, though, unless you had some sort of weight handicapping. Then you've got more rules for people to get high strung about and it's getting more complicated.

Reminded of the waning days of the 500 nationals, when only a few riders could really ride the BEASTS to their potential. The 250 class was more exciting back then too.
I'm not buying that "450s are too beastly" argument for one minute. Even the area code privateers can ride the wheels off of those bikes.
If your definition of "fun" is multiple lead changes, then we'll need to put some pressure on the 450 field to "step it up" and stop taking the beatdown. James took some time to defend his competition, but at some point one has to ask them "You guys spend a lot of time and money training and testing... so are you gonna do something about James or what?"
The current AMA point system is also to blame for the lack of competition. They let guys stay in the lites class way too long and even win the title 3 times before moving them up. The lites class would be better without RV and the 450 class would be better with him. Next year he moves up just in time for Stewart to go SX only.
And allow the 250T back in using whatever fuel they want.
As far as the riding style for 450s vs 250s, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that a 450 is a lot of bike to ride 35 minutes real aggressively. Tiring, for sure. It's a lot like the old 500Ts, you have to ride smoothly, with wide, flowing lines and not too much cut and thrust. It's not so much that the bike won't respond to agressive riding, but that it takes too much rider energy.
I hear ya there.
I noticed this in SX also, they can just do a lot more creative things on the 250 f's.
Even back in the 70's I thought the smaller bikes were more fun to watch.
The only place that I enjoy watching or riding big bikes are on true old school GP tracks.
