That is what I love about so many Americans. We rate Villopoto number one because he is clearly the best guy, and you guys often say stuff like Roczen has the potential to be the best guy, or he isn't clearly the best guy, despite the fact he smoked all the MX2 riders in the World and a bunch of MX1 and Open riders at the last two MXoN, if an America did that we would rate him, but you guys, have this idea he first has to race in America.

We are not expecting one of your guys to come to Europe before we rate him, and it's not because we feel your series is tougher, because it clearly isn't.

From the last ten years you have former champions Rattray, Musquin and Roczen racing your series in 2012, that hasn't taken a big chunk out of our long list of great riders. It's not like AMA has taken all our best riders. Sure three of the last four MX2 Champions are in USA, but our premier class is the MX1 class and from that class you have zero riders in the last ten years. Our series in my opinion has much more depth in both classes and with the economy in America rather weak I can't see another euro going to America for a while yet. Pourcel and Herlings might think about it, but I even wonder if those guys will leave.

It won't change, we will rate our guys higher and you will do the same with your guys. I am okay with that, wish you guys were too.

I agree with that, the GPs have become more stacked in depth over recent years and the product has got better and better, the racing has been awesome.MX1 has an incredible line up next year,AC,Desalle,CP,Frossard,Phillipearts,Paulin,Bobby,Nagl (and about 5 more not too far off) more can all win on their day,on different tracks each can shine. And yes economy wise I think it would take someone of Roczen's standard to tempt some American teams to hand over a big chunk of cash,I think Herlings may well go because he's on a KTM,I think he'd be very, very reluctant to switch to a Jap ride.

I think both series are as fast in their own right and in all honesty I know Americans say "everyone has to come here" but many probably do say it in the heat of all the mud-throwing and can see how fast the GP riders are and it doesn't take a genius to work out that regarding American riders,it would need Dungey or Villopoto to come and do well in a season in Europe, but anyone, other than those 2 would probably struggle to make the top 10 against those GP riders mentioned above

I was gutted Desalle was out for the MXdN as I thought that with his starts he could have proved a match for anyone

Great post, best post so far on this matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were also gutted Frossard, Desalle, and Philippaerts didn't ride, because these guys are as fast as anyone on their day. Throw De Dycker and Nagl into the mix and an already good MXoN would have even been better. One rider who has always performed at the MXoN and won his share of class overall was Steve Ramon. What a great loss to the sport he is.

Does anyone else here understand the pattern of MX Geoff and friends coming in here shortly after another Team USA win and trying to change the scoreboard? Notice how he forgets that 5 of the last 6 MX2 world champs -- Townley, Pourcel, Rattray, Musquin, and now Roczen -- have or will spend the peak years of their careers here in the states and not racing over there? Notice how Geoff acts like we somehow are now weak and that means the end of the one-way pipeline, even though Herlings and Paulin are already working on their 2013 deals here?

Hell, we even won the FIM Junior Cup in Italy, without Adam Cianciarulo or Dakota Alix or Cooper Webb or Justin Hill or Jeremy Martin or even Justin Bogle and that somehow never comes up either.

Geoff, I know you are a great big booster for Europe, and we all enjoy the races on both sides of the ocean, but it's kind of weird the way you make fun of message boards, call us idiots, and then come in( right on schedule after the MXoN) and continue to imagine a motocross world where our series somehow lacks depth and talent compared yours....

And by the way, Chad Reed -- a privateer -- won the first moto at the MXoN, and more nationals this year than anyone. Everyone seems to forget about that.

Racing in Europe would be much tougher on an American who grows up racing here his whole life, and it would also mean a steep pay cut. I have full respect for Tony Cairoli and Steven Frossard and friends, but the way you guys try to make the whole thing over there so much better just leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth here.

Enjoy your riders, enjoy your races, but please quit trying to rate ours until you actually come to a race over here that counts.

DC you are so wrong on this it amazes me. Team USA deserved to win 100%. I have always said that. I rated the Ryans ahead of Cairoli soon after the MXoN.

DC, I came here because you sent me a personal e-mail telling me I was an idiot for writing a top ten you didn't agree with, then you go and make a top ten that I don't agree with. I dont call you an idiot, its your opinion. If our series is so full of weak riders, who don't deserve to be in the top ten why is it that 5 of the last six have moved to America.

Come on DC, don't be so thin skinned, it doesn't suit you.

DC,

I think the AMA series is awesome, I told you Washougal looks like the best MX track in the World. You have great riders, many are better or equal to our riders. I don't see the problem with how you look at GP riders being the equal to AMA riders. I think Chad Reed might not agree about the pay cut thing, and Chritophe Pourcel sure wouldn't.

AMA is awesome DC, you guys do a great job, and somebody like me couldn't even imagine how much work you put into our sport to make it better. That is why we all respect you, we know you are one of us. But please, don't try and make your series look better than the FIM series, because both have something better than the other and it's been like that since the late 1970's.

"Does anyone else here understand the pattern of MX Geoff and friends coming in here shortly after another Team USA win and trying to change the scoreboard?"

It's nothing new,he has done it on here and on MotoTalk for years now.
It was far worse on MotoTalk a handful of years back or so,especially after Stefan's epic ride at the MXoN in 06.
Geoff likes to poke a stick in the FIM vs AMA bees nest every now and then...
Sometimes it is good for a little reply/discussion,other times it's only good for a big laugh. Grinning

Yep, been doing it since I think 1999, or even before. I used to get blamed on just being dumb, now I get blamed because I work for YS......Mind you I was at my worst around 2002, 2003 just before the YS take over and while I was in the middle of a divorce. Being bitter makes for good forum.

I always thought it was in harmless good fun anyway. Smile
What ever happened to Rob Andrews, dont see him on the boards much these days?
He was another guy that made the FIM vs AMA threads fun at times.

I think it was in 06 after Stefan laid an ass whooping to the world at the MXoN.
He started a thread I believe on MotoTalk that the title read something like Europe Really Won The MXoN.
Then he showed the points of the American guys vs the Euro guys....everyone went off/got worked up. lol

Nothing that goes up here should be taken seriously and anyone who does take it seriously is way too passionate. It's fun, the euros love their series and the AMA love theirs and overall we are all really lucky that both series exist.

With all respect to Rob, he hasn't been to more than one GP (if that) in the last five years. He is living in another era and the general opinion within people in the industry is he hasn't got a clue. I love Rob and you gotta respect him. I even got him and his daughter a free ticket for the 2009 MXoN. You need to really understand the sport from the inside to have respect for people like DC and Luongo. Both have done great jobs and both have learnt a lot from eachother I think.

that isn't even close to what DC said... Furthermore, I will reinerate, most over here, will have a hard time supporting a racer, no matter how fast, who has delusional fans that are so desperate to have an A.M.A. champioionship threat that they piss on their, object of moto affection's path to success with personal fantasy and a deep dellusion of granduer... KRoc may deserve our attention and support, but you, and guys like yourself, are making it hard for him... you could make it easier, by shutting your mouth and let the kid prove himself to us... Instead, we get a steady diet of ifs, ands and buts... let it happen...

Let me get this straight. I put a top ten on MY European based website, which is primarily for GP fans. somebody from here takes the link and starts a thread here. I then get a mail from DC mentioned what a stupid list, which is okay, because I think DC's list is also way too heavy with AMA riders, but anyway.

What then happens is what always happens. GP people have a higher regard for their riders and AMA guys have a higher regard for their riders. It's as simple as that really.

Nobody makes it hard for Roczen, he will be loved, if somebody doesn't love that kid for what he is, then that person has some pretty sick idea about life.

Bman, you are a wanker.

MX1 - Paulin would have been in there but I decided to put him in MX2 since thats what he rode most of the year, and this is based on everyone riding the world championship over a season... the only fair comparison..as basing it on national championship gives that countries riders too much of an advantage ...but also I based it on their performances in their respective series this season.. so taking those two aspects into consideration this is what i came up with.

1. Caroli/ Villopoto - I just couldn't separate these two, Cairoli with his fifth world title and might edge him in the GPs but you have take Ryans MX/SX titles.. both are legends and inseparable right now.
2. Dungey
3. Desalle
4. Reed
5. Frossard
6. Pourcel ( can beat any one on his day but showed some inconsistency which put him back)
7. Canard
8. Nagl
9. Phillipearts
10. Bobby

MX2

1. Roczen
2. Herlings
3. Wilson
4. Searle
5. Rattray
6. Baggett
7. Paulin
8. Musquin ( on form he is right up there though)
9. Tonus
10. Tomac/Osborne

I think that is a pretty fair list, and once again all those guys are really good, nothing much to seperate any of them be they AMA or GP... it's all the same speed and level. Just different. When the Americans acknowledge they aren't better but just as good then the Motocross world will be a happier place. btw the MXDN team results prove nothing re: the individual top ten or the AMA v GP debate, don't know why AMericans think that means they are better than Europeans. If you take the three best European performers in the MXDN and the three AMericans.. Europe won easy.

So like I said a nations team race result has nothing to do with the debate Geoff is talking about here, and it is nothing like racing a World Championship either. Also neither championship is mine and I do not have any national bias involved here.

I think if you look at the overall winner from the MX2 class in the MXoN the last three or four years and it's often a GP rider. Roczen the last two years and Musquin before that. The top American in those years has been Baggett 4th overall, Canard 3rd overall and Wiemer 7th overall. Thats pretty much sums up the different from MX2 and Lites. But then again, it's only results what they mean stuff all..........

Would you apply that same logic to the MX1/450 class? Does the results for the MX1 champion show just how far off the MX1 class is from the AMA 450 class?

100%, I think Villopoto, Dungey and Reed have proven to be a level above most in the World. Cairoli gets in there somewhere due to his often impressive results (beating Villopoto in 2006 in a moto and beating Reed and Dungey in a moto in 2009, plus battling with Dungey in MxoN races in 2010 and 2011), but for the rest I think it's pretty open, Metcalfe, Frossard, Philippaerts, Pourcel, Desalle, Bobryshev would be mixed in there somewhere. I think MX1 in Europe is deeper, but for sure at the top in AMA it is stronger.

That is one thing American's always have, one or two riders who are the best of the best. Impressive!!!!

I think Rob hasn't lost sight of the forest for the trees, and people beholden to the promoter may have.

No series is perfect.

I'm pretty sure if you took everyone's top tens and ran that field for ten races, many of those different lists would turn up as results. Those are some pretty damn good riders no matter which side of the pond they race on, and any of the best are capable of beating the other best on a given day.

Well said, and if the series was run in Europe the top ten would be loaded with GP guys and the same goes for AMA guys if was run in America.
