DC,
With all of the older guys still racing out there, what are the chances of the +50 Class getting their own "full gate" Class again, let's say next year in 2012? I am sure there are enough +50 guys out there to fill the gate. Seems like they are being punished by only letting the 20 or so in now....

Thanks,
JG.

Another suggestion!

DC,

Im hoping for a 25 + B class, seems like everyone forgets that age of the racing, people like me that have fulll time jobs and can't hang with the youngsters any more in B and can't even begin to race with the other 25 + guys because they are all A or retired Pro guys cleaning up for money.... DC bring in a 25+B

Thank you... That is all!

Yeah why should the parents that bring their kids get to race?

I say go back to a 42 rider pw class instead of splitting time with the multi-speed.

No...they need to get rid of the 2 beginner classes that were added this year. What a joke! Give the 50 Plus a full gate instead next year.

I would say make regional what they should be. you make it, fine, you don't there isn't a second chance when you get there. I have heard many complaints about 4-5 lap races at regionals since time is limited and part of Saturday is wasted "requalifying" riders who didn't make it in the first 8 trys.

when I went, if you didn't make it in the area. you didn't go to the regional you weren't invited.

running 8 areas in a region makes for a real hard time on the local tracks trying to hold races. hence the killing off of the farm team process. it takes those smaller tracks to build ridership. today they are struggling competeing from March thru june against this process.

maybe riders would like a two week national? add more classes, all areas would be two days and have the national in September so there is plenty of time to add on more and more. Smile

With the rising costs of bikes, parts and gas only the Vets will be afford it before long.

Robbie Reynard won +25 last year... I turn 25 in August and want to try and qualify for +25 next year but with a gate loaded up with pros/ex-pros, it really loses it's luster. This is in NO way a slam at Robbie, he's a rad dude who can seriously haul the mail and one of the nicest guys I've ever talked to... However it's a flaw in the system that I think would be worth noting.

When was the last time a 6 year old won one of the 4-6 classes.

Why are 7 year olds allowed to race it?

Do the 7 year olds get to park at a hook up spot too?

This problem will always exist in every age class as long as qualifiers are run months before the event. You know the rules long before you ever go to the first qualifier. The scary thing is how many parents get bent out of shape about what happens in the 50 and 60 classes. That part of any amateur kids career is so insignificant no matter how far you make it in the sport.

Your AMA age is based on January of that year. My son was 7 when he won but had turned that age at the end of May prior to the National. You cant base it by "age now" considering the enormity of the event.
Hook up for the most part is Lottery. Your name is thrown in as you register. We are going on our 11th year to Lorettas and as of yet had only 2 hook-ups. Honestly I like being outback by all our friends in the fields!!

Parents will always fork out the money for their kids, that is the main reason amateur motocross has done ok during this bad economic time. Stock car racing has suffered because grown men wont spend that kind of money to keep racing for themselves, but have a Dad that thanks 5 year old little Timmy can one day be a Supercross champion and he will keep opening his wallet until after 5 years of little Timmy not winning the D class.

You got three chances to race the 4-6 classes and I will list them for you here.

1)Be 4 years old.
2)Be 5 years old.
3)Be 6 years old.

How hard would it be to have a rule that say's race the area qualifier for the age group you will be on the day of the event.

Or whatever age you are at the date of the first area qualifier, that is the age class you race at the national.

In the youngest of classes age and maturity are a HUGE advantage.

I have to chime in here. I'm one of those guys who believes we already have way too many classes. What used to be 10 classes or so has grown to 24+ classes which equals a longer day and less track time (shorter motos).

I don't think we need to create a class for everyone so that everyone can get a trophy. I like the days of saying 'I got third' in the 125 class, which meant something. Now my friends get 2nd in the Plus 25.....out of f&^king two...In Indiana all I had to do last year was enter the plus 30 class and I would've been champion....

If you think it's fast in the plus 25, wait until you get to the plus 40 class....the pros just get older along with you.

I say fewer classes, if you're getting beat train and ride harder or just accept the fact that you're not as fast as the other guy, or girl. My 1 cent.

Simple fix. Get rid of the 4 stroke class or one of the C classes(stock or mod) and in its place add a PRO class. Anyone who has ever held a pro license and/or tried to qualify for a SX, AX or National must race that class. Keep 30+ B/C for those of us who got in the sport late and are just not fast enough and then all the other Vet classes are open to A(non pro), B/C riders.......

I agree with Ryno, there has to be a point where they stop adding classes so that everyone can get a trophy....

Your rational goes for every class up to the big bikes (not just the 4-6 class) and if we use your scenario of the day of the first qualifier...well thats usually late february so it will still include 90%. If we also use that scenario my son, for example would have still been 6 yrs old. If you made them qualify in the age they would be at the National they would be ineligible for any other races as they already raced up an age. So whats your point?
Its an AMA rule not a MX Sports one. Always has been that way
BTW...my son did also qualify as a 4 yr old but we didnt go and went as a 5 yr old (finished 20th). Why should he have not been allowed to be at the top of his class? (and he won)

why don't they just change the name to .....under 7 years and 7 months?

why do the 3 year olds get excluded from the class?

Most 3 yr olds arent race ready. My son has been riding since 3, and hes just getting the hang of the race program and he just turned 5. My son rides great, IMO, for being 5, a chance I didnt get. But most kids that age are not physically and mentally advanced enough to handle racing in bigger proportions

While I enjoyed my Loretta's experience in 2009, I thought that me as a 40+ B rider, riding against Doug Dubach was more than a little silly. My feeling is that these are amateur championships and former pros (not to mention FACTORY riders) really have no place there.

Just my 2 cents.

Thats my thinking too. IF you have EVER held a pro liscense, no need to go to LL or any am. national. You are no longer an amateur, no matter your age. If you want to race there, there are 4 pro classes every year that you could ride.

Until you hit 40+, (40+A), you should have to ride the regular pro classes. No smack on Robbie, but thats cherry picking.

Loretta's has ruined motocross in this country. When all the local tracks mirror LL classes you get 4 lap moto sprints. That is not motocross plain and simple.
