Disclaimer,

No offense to Marvin at all, this is strictly my opinion. : )

After watching only half this video, as I had to stop watching it. I determined he has the weirdest riding style.

Every heard of elbows up when riding? I mean yeah the guy flies around the track. To see one French guy ride like poetry (Pourcel) and then see this. Wow!

Yeah DV had more of a snake like style, hence is nickname Le Cobra.

To each his own! Its cool to hear different opinions. Im more of a fan of technical riders like KW.

DV's style is more reminiscent of a writhing worm after it's been cut it in half!

Not even for one split second did I notice anything weird about his style. I honestly cant see what you are talking about. And actually, although K-Dub is poetry in motion on a bike, I think he keeps his elbows waay lower most of the time. I could be wrong though. Jus' sayin.

mate, he has really long arms which makes it hard to ride with his elbows up. He's also really skinny so they look even longer. Guys with short arms (RC, Reed etc) look more stylish because their arm movements are far less exagerated.
Marvin rides really fast and moves his bike really well so overall his style looks good, but not much he ca do about his arm length unfortunately.

He's also a double world champion... whether his elbows are up or down, it doesn't really matter anymore.

That old transworld video does him no justice imo. Once you've seen more of him you'll soon discover that he is one of the smoothest riders out there with style almost as effortless as CP's or Windham. He is in that category.

CP may be taking his "effortless" style to a whole new level this weekend...

I think the kid has a different style for sure but the bike is going fast! and i for one like this style more than the Rox and Barcia gun slinger rear wheel in front of the front wheel crap. but hey they all make it work for them so be it........ pin it to win it boys!

From that video it looks like he's gripping hard with his legs and letting his arms relax a lot more. More of an elbows out than up style. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact it looks pretty damn fast to me.

that's what i was thinking too, and he doesn't get his head over the numberplate much, he seems to sit a little farther back, or that could also be his height. tall riders can have awesome style tho, just look at dean wilson, and k-dub is actually pretty tall also.

I find it interesting that the younger the foreign riders are in the states, the better attitudes they have these days. They get to the states and appreciate their opportunities. I don't know if it's because their realizing thay they are living their dream of racing professionally or what. I know not every foreign rider is, or was, unselfish, so please don't kill me. It just seems like the days of good guys like Jeff Leisk were over and now it's coming back around. Regardless, I could care less what CP does anymore or who he races for. Guys like Roczen and Musquin have taken his spotlight. I think Jeremy McGrath said it best that "You see the same people on the way up as you do on the way down".

Riding styles are like art.

Each style is unique and there really isn't a right or wrong.

Most people get bent out of shape when they see someone with their elbows down. If you have the strength to pull it off there is absolutely nothing wrong with it; in my opinion it saves some energy.

Ever notice that people that ride elbows down are usually WIDE OPEN? Personally if you're a newcomer to the sport, focus on riding with good technique but once you're fast do whatever works for you.

It's his arm length, more than anything...that, and they are really skinny....that's where I'm getting a hint of the "alien" look from.

Not much he can do about that....and with his resume, who really cares?

I agree with the really long wingspan and skinny, lanky form he has. I think I ride similar do to the fact I'm about 6'2 and 170lbs. The thing that bothered me was it didn't look like he ever touches his front brake. Not even to drag it through the ruts, but hey, I dont have world titles either. That's just how I was raised
