Australia is a similar size to the US. Except it is mostly flat desert with no water. A small slither of people mostly exists on some coastlines.

Australia has horrible bushfires. With less than 20 million people we still have horrific death tolls.

And land clearing of rainforest (emphasis on rain) still occurs here in a “first “ world nation.

Mother Nature? Don’t ask. She is a hard woman.

Best of strength and love to all of you affected in this terrible time 😢

I'll let Last2Stroke handle this one.😳

Why does every reporter talking about the fire have a bunker shirt on no matter where they are?

They never wear cop shirts when covering a crime.

There is always hope. Cali used to be where everyone wanted to live/visit  until it became heavily taxed.

Its a beautiful part of the country, I hope it can become that again.

It’s really funny to me how much people hate Californians. Yes, there’s total dumb ass people for sure. The people voting in those dumb ass politicians aren’t a true representation on what a Californian is. They surely don’t represent me.

One thing that’s forgotten is how many people from other states migrated to California from other states in the 50’ & 60’s. My grandfather relocated his family from Pennsylvania. Originally from Germany.  Many in my neighborhood had parents from Oregon. My uncle was from Argentina. My step grandmother was from Japan. Makes for a lot of diversity in one household not to mention, multicultural influences within one household. Yet alone, one neighborhood. Not sure why I elaborated on this but, a high percentage of hate Californians get is, undeserved. The idiots in office, Fuckem. They deserve all the hate they’re currently getting for fucking up what was once a great state.

I've lived all over California.  Grew up in rural Calabasas, moved to Nor-Cal/Redwood City for career in Silicon Valley...then moved to San Diego.      Been blessed to live in some of the most beautiful places Cali has to offer.

We still love it here.... we're sticking it out for a while longer.       Aside from all the political BS, it's still an amazing place to live for so many reasons.

Not everyone here is a delusional libtard...so it sucks  when outsiders say "you get what you voted for".      I didn't vote for any of this shit...EVER.

I left the LA area in 98. Glad I did. It’s sad going back home and, seeing most of my friends and, family struggling. The house I grew up in is now worth 900K. Totally unaffordable for the average family by todays standards.  The only person I know personally who’s doing somewhat decent, is a childhood friend who’s a police officer in Ventura County. He’s getting hosed and, jerked around by his department after coming back from a serious, on the job injury.

Though beautiful California beaches and, desert are my favorite places, I’ll never move back.

Love it or, leave it.

I lived in Carson, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne and, Camarillo. I gotta admit, even though Seattle is known for its seafood, it’s very pale in comparison to what many of the restaurants in California have to offer.

The thing I appreciate the most are the opportunities to harvest your own seafood and, fresh fish here.
I could never say, I have 130 lbs of salmon in the freezer living in California. The one thing I can’t say is, the weather is great in this area. Three months of warm weather isn’t my idea of fun when working construction outside.

A few hours ago, there were several reports of the Chief getting fired. Now there’s several reports of it being untrue.

Fucking Fake News I guess. Apologies. Guess we’ll see how it plays out. Just seems like another game of hot potato placing blame.

If true....this is pure insanity...if not criminal.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) CEO Janisse Quiñones had knowledge that the Santa Ynez Reservoir was offline, and that fire hydrants were not working, according to a recent report.

Insiders with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFP) reportedly told the DailyMail that Quiñones, who was hired in May on a $750,000 salary, is “being blamed” by the LAFD for leaving the Santa Ynez Reservoir in the Pacific Palisades disconnected as wildfires began in the Los Angeles area.

They’re already…namely Gavin…saying this is worse than the San Francisco 1906 Earthquake…etc.

Damn. We suck. We even shit on history due to what vain pathetic people we are. Go take a look at San Francisco back in the day…

I hope no one thinks I’m being petty asking, but do any of the locals know if Duke’s restaurant or Malibu Seafood. on the PCH survived?

I’ve eaten at both a few times, and just curious. I know all of the homes are more important, but those are kind of iconic places, as well as several people’s livelihood.

Interesting article, putting out the theory that the fire's point of origin was the same place where a fireworks blaze was put out by firefighters on new years.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2025/01/13/we-have-a-theory-on-what-caused-the-devastating-palisades-fire-n2650407

Trying to go back and find it, but there's a time lapse video of the fire, as it moves down into the valley below.

Looks to show a huge flash at the beginning.

Leading the the thought that the wind blew down a powerline.

Droughts hit the plain states approximately every quarter-century. They occur much more frequently in the area of California currently burning.

Large-scale farming techniques were relatively new in the 30's and folks in that part of the country were planting crops that weren't suitable (not because they were arrogant, because they were trying to make a living, and the federal government wanted them to). The droughts still occur in that region, but dust bowls don't because farmers learned how to mitigate the effects of those droughts.
