Juneteenth

Well, it marks the end of an ugly chapter of our nations history. It has zero negative impact on my life. Plus, I love me some barbecue and collard greens!

Danger Ranger is right, its a worthy thing to celebrate separate from Independece Day. 

I've wondered if you could go back in time and show all the slave owners, traders and financiers the racial problems we've had in this country over the last 160 years what they would say about their decisions at the time. They'd probably say why did you free them?

This a payed holiday for most companies, yet Veterans Day and Presidents Day are not

I’m sick every Veteran’s Day, true story.

Not a fan, just adds another day until my deposits are available. 

Juneteenth. Thats not even a proper word. Did they make it sound unintelligent on purpose? What ever happened to black history month? Is that still a thing, or does this juneteenth thing now supersede that? How many holidays does the gay crowd get? Their gonna get jealous if the black community gets more than them, they will demand equal treatment. While we're at it can we dedicate a holiday or whole month to asian people, or how about mexicans? Where is my white male pride holiday? This whole poilitical pandering to minority/special interest groups and shoving it down the countrys throat is dumb as hell. If we are a nation of united people then we are all "united" as one group.... Americans regardless of skin color, gender, religion etc. If we all act like a united group then this special designation for different indentifications isn't necessary, all it does is point out our differences. We are all different for sure, but drawing lines between our differences and celebrating one side just leaves the other side out. Where do we stop? Is there a national red heads day? (There probably is, but almost nobody has heard of it, or celebrates it, or points it out on TV with so much fervor.) They are a minority. Where do we stop with all the dividing. It kind of reminds me of the old debate about the great american salad bowl vs great american melting pot, but either way you prefer it we are still one big united group of people and the more we can view ourselves that way the better off EVERYONE will be. IF YOUR DIFFERENT THAN ME THATS COOL, QUIT POINTING OUT THE DIFFERENCE AND MAKING IT THE CENTER OF ATTENTION ALL THE TIME! Its hard to see someone for anything other than different if thats what they insist on shoving down your throat. If we can casually look over our differences we can begin to focus on the things that make us alike.

What is it? My union is having a get together for it. I don't go to union gatherings even when I do know what they're for,never bothered to even see what it is.

I don’t know of any private companies that have a paid holiday for Juneteenth.  I can say that I pay anyone who served a paid day off on Veterans Day if they participate in our local Veterans Day parade. I don’t know about the rest of our corporate locations, but I decided that after becoming plant manager here. 

The problem with these things is that they're presented as being benign, a way to educate, perfectly reasonable, who couldn't agree etc, when in reality they're used for vengeance and to further divide...That's the actual purpose, regardless of what anyone would like to believe otherwise.

18 and 19th century America was destined to practice slavery just as everyone else had throughout history. It was inevitable. Where the West is unique is in going to great lengths to try and end it. It's frankly astonishing that such a people, in a time when the populace still relied hugely on horse power to travel great distances across the land, wind to sail the oceans etc, when children died in workhouses or starved in the streets... could have the foresight to do so. 

I agree with him 100%.  If you want to end racism, stop talking about it.  But the government doesn't want that.  They want us fighting over stupid shit.  So we have Juneteenth and Pride Month.

I came home pissed after going and buying a few bottles of HP2 premix. One bottle cost $16.75. I bought 4 thinking they were still $11 and some change. Seriously!?!?! WTF!?!?

 I’ll feel better about it next Saturday when I go riding lol.  I’m just changing all the fluids and, getting ready. It’s nice having something to look forward to. Just sucks that this dealership didn’t post prices on the racks. Looks like I’ll start buying online so I’m not surprised again.

Everything that has anything to do with a sliver of enjoyment went up in price. Fishing just got more expensive as well this year.  Perfect example of that is, a $12 pack of swivels is now $18. 
I need this stuff so, let’s just add another 50% to the price.

We have a national holiday for Columbus, and Juneteenth. Being a Native American it kinda stings that there isn't a national holiday for the original inhabitants of this country. Not taking anything away from either of those days, just saying it's pretty fucking sad. 

Here in New Mexico we have Indigenous Peoples day in October.
