I was worried that Ozzy would sound awful or that Bill would have trouble playing (the fills in War Pigs weren’t what they used to be, but it still sounded good). But I think they were great. I’m very happy for Ozzy that he could perform. Absolute legends!

The Heaven and Hell Tour with Dio was off the hook.
I had tickets to see them but I broke my arm in 4 places and dislocated my elbow and just got out of surgery so had to miss it. The guy I gave my ticket to loved it! I ended up never seeing Dio perform live. As If the broken arm wasn’t bad enough!
I took my son to those tours they did, as I recall there were two back to back? 2007 and then another in '08 or '09? It was before he went into the USMC and was overseas a while. I later heard Ronnie was sick the entire time and didnt tell anyone.
Stomach cancer, about 70 years old and still hits an A5. (yes, that scream was legit no effects)
I so wish I would’ve been able to go to that show. Dio is possibly the best male vocalist we’ll ever see, and the music he made with Sabbath was magic.

Sorry for the hijack. Back to that cool last Sabbath show. Sure hope they professionally recorded it,, Id paid for a DVD or Blueray to watch.
He’s got to be one of the…what? Top 10 Vocalists ever. His ability to shred for sooo many years…his presence…and he had his own “sound” that’s still unmatched to this day. When he was performing…it wasn’t just a rock concert…
It was a musical performance.

No apologies necessary! Dio was awesome and a big part of Sabbath’s history. He did a great job with Ozzy songs too, which is not easy (excellent singers can sound bad trying to emulate Ozzy). He had his own take on them and I don’t think his versions were better or worse , just different. I hate when people love Ozzy and diss Dio, or the reverse. I love them both, and it’s an apples to oranges comparison because they are so different.
One of these days, performers and producers will have to disclose during ticket sales, if they are faking lead vocals or instruments and which ones. It's so rampant now. My sister went to Las Vegas a few months ago to see the Eagles. I did not have the heart to tell her that Henley was not really singing most of his stuff.

There are very well paid professionals that run “live timing” programs to make sure most folks don’t catch on. From controlling pitch to outright dubbing.
It’s just fuckin’ sad.
Edit: I’m betting there’s some Bullshit Legalese on the purchase “terms” and even the fucking ticket that states the event may be a prerecorded fucking shit-show.
I think the performances at this show were live. Am I naive? I’m pretty sure Axl Rose’s singing was live or it would have sounded better (couldn’t resist - I thought he sounded awful).
I remember seeing Ozzie at OzFest with Black Sabbath…the entire fucking day…all those bands….AMAZING

I rode my bike past (I think) Kelly Osbourne and Sid Wilson's place this week.
They live on a farm outside Des Moines near Indianola. Took me awhile to figure out which acreage it was.
My question is: when did axl Rose sound good? J/K Not a big fan though.
It's really hard to tell from the audience at a live show if they are miming. More and more of them are getting caught and embarrassed so hopefully it's dying out. A guy I work for took his family to Vancouver to see Taylor Swift. (not his idea). When he told his wife that she probably wasn't singing most of her lines, he lived to regret it, but barely.
Backing tracks at live performances are extremely common now. Lead vocal tracks aren't used as often as background vocal tracks (as far as I can tell).
I have mixed ffeelings about them. On the one hand, you are paying for a "live music" experience, on the other hand, nobody wants the show to sound shitty.
Having played in many bands when I was younger, I'm sure audiences would have preferred my vocals to have been pre-recorded.
No band that I was ever in would let me sing.
Most of my criticism about pre recorded tracks are aimed at lead vocals and big names doing big shows charging big bucks.

I'll give you a comparison.
Neil Young. As a songwriter and bandmember he was/is top 20 all time.
As a singer, like Dylan, his vocal expression and character was top 20 but nobody would compare him to Donald Fagen.
As a guitarist, he is number 352 in my top 100.
If you are not a fan of Rose's singing style, I'm not, it doesn't take away from the band or the songwriting although he is a deterrent.

Gotta love Dio. I understand he was pretty down to Earth, too. There's a great video circulating around on Youtube of the making of Tenacious D's "Pick of Destiny," wherein they're showing the BTS of Dio singing his part in the movie. Jack Black just about has a heart attack and bows down on his knees after the performance. Ronnie is like, "Do you want me to try that again?" 😆Jack says to his hero, "No, I think I just witnessed the greatest human achievement ever," or something like that.

I think Axl had a unique sound that was perfect for what GnR was doing. It’s just not there anymore. Not as bad as Vince Neil, but not great.
People age, people change. Shit happens to us all. It’s ok. All we can do is our best. That’s what I dislike about Vince Neil - he doesn’t come across as a guy doing his best.
Last time I saw Megadeth, Dave was barely audible. But he had throat cancer and wasn’t an elite singer at his best. But the music is still top notch and his voice still has that unique character that works. He’s not what he used to be but he’s giving it his best shot. Not everyone can be Dio. Dio still sounded pristine when he was dying of stomach cancer.
Bruce Dickinson had throat cancer too but when I saw them in 2023 he sounded fantastic. Halford also sounded amazing in 2019 - range, power and tone all terrific. I think he was better than 10 years prior. It’s a bit weird seeing him leaning over staring at a teleprompter. But if he needs it to perform, then I’m not going to complain.
I’m glad I saw Motörhead in 2012 before Lemmy got sick and struggled to perform. I’ve never experienced anything like a Motörhead show. The sheer volume and the irresistible groove of Lemmy’s bass - no recording could ever do it justice. His last performance was literally weeks before he died of cancer. He kept giving his best to the fans to the end - cancer, diabetes that robbed him of the ability to feel his fingers, and congestive heart failure be damned. Not everyone can do that. I’m glad his good buddy Ozzy got the chance to do it one more time. I find it inspiring - and there’s definitely days when I need some inspiration.
