When they first started I was meh on them, I didn't hate them and didn't love them. I have fully come around and really look forward to Triple Crown rounds now. The number they do is perfect, just enough that I can look forward to them.
What?? It was just a question on WSX scoring....let me rephrase it....In WSX is the winner awarded the total points earned (10+10+25) or are those points used to calculate the overall finish for the race and then the winner is awarded 25 championship points for the O/A....just a question not an opinion...
Yes but let us watch the LCQs
Oh.. First one. 45 championship points in total up for grabs per GP.

Every time a triple crown race shows up there's so much chaos, I hate it. Not like I want a snooze fest of racing. But 3 gate drops with heightened intensity is a recipe for problems. My bias here; If it was a normal race, Tomac makes it to the front and wins that first Main event. Then the 2nd moto crash never happens and the potential for a season ending injury goes down dramatically without 2 more gate drops. If anything I'd much rather see 2 moto format, no heat races ever.
I think they should add two more races and make it a quintuple crown. Heck, why not a double-triple crown, with six races? Wait! A TRIPLE-TRIPLE CROWN!!! Yeah, 9 races! We could add gator pits and rings of fire for the riders to jump through, and maybe a karaoke contest.
Or we could have 6 races that mean nothing while we wait all night for the only 2 races of the night that mean anythingโฆ?!
The problem with Triple Crowns is that the final race is anticlimactic when a rider has essentially sealed it in the first two. With the traditional format it feels like everything builds towards a finale.
On the other hand, I question how seriously the top riders take heat races. When it takes the top 9, they aren't really at risk of missing it unless they have a big get off, and the difference between 1st and 7th gate pick probably isn't big enough to risk sending it.
One thing they could do to bring excitement to the heat races would be to pay championship points to the top finishers like they did back in late-70's to early-80's.
Thereโs nothing quite like explaining to anyone that winning the heat doesnโt mean anything and winning the lcq still doesnโt mean anything and winning that other heat still didnโt mean anything other than gate picksโฆ. Such a good time.
Curious how Lewis and ML were sort of "meh" on triple crown on post race show. For Eli it turned a potential 13th place into a 4th, and Cooper a mixed result into a win. I'm in agreement with the other posts that we should have a WSX style escalating point system and longer races for the heavier points paying finale so there is more consequence to the last race.
I was wondering how many times a overall winner had no moto wins, so I made this spreadsheet.
To be fair, the Triple Crown racing has been pretty good lately. It does make for a change of scenery, so to speak. I just take exception that someone thought to himself, "Gee Supercross [the most exciting sport in the world,] needs more excitement. Let's change the format!" It feels a little like Feld has taken it upon themselves to "Circus-ify" the sport without any regard to its history or standing as a top form of motorsport.
Yay only 1.5 hours until the actual racing begins tonight.
