Kind of surprised there isn’t more talk about Trasher. Really impressed with his speed especially lately and even more so in light of an ACL tear. I couldn’t even bend my leg it was so badly swollen when mine went let alone ride a treacherous track at an elite level. Seems like a solid guy too. Dude acknowledges his problems and offers no excuses. What’s not to like.
I'm curious as to know when he actually tore it and how badly.
I know when I did mine. Then next 2 or 3 weeks were bad. My surgery was on a waiting list for about 4 months.
After about 3 weeks it started to feel good walking and normal everyday day. So I started riding again. It wasn't to bad unless I dabbed my foot. By 6 weeks it was like 99% normal. Come surgery time I was unsure if I should actually get the surgery.
Wasn't it James Stewart who did his acl, but still rode the outdoors back in 13 or 14? It seemed it get better through the summer and didn't seem to affect his riding.
Not surprised about Thrasher. Future winner of 450 main event. Stamp it.
I thought I heard somebody say Houston on a podcast. Regardless of the severity he’s been giving Hunter a hard time lately and all the more credit to him if it’s significantly torn or worse. Clearly he has all the speed he needs, just needs to keep getting starts and to figure some things out for more consistency.
The Shop
That 15th at round 1 is really screwing him out of the title fight. Hunter did the same last year against Craig, where he handed Christian a big enough lead where he was able to just cruise it home, even though Hunter was faster.
IMO it’s not gonna be enough if Nate wins a couple in a row, he needs to get rough and try to rattle Hunter so that at least a few guys have a chance at getting in between.
Hasn't that rattling been what Trasha (and other Star boys) have been trying?
They don't call it the dirty south for nothing.
It’s most certainly a low level partial tear that they used modern technology to eliminate swelling asap.
Tough guy for sure and super impressive. But no chance you completely blow out an ACL and race the next weekend (and win).
Ha that’s not going to go over well here……
These dudes have so much strength in their legs that the muscle can stabilize the knee and hold everything together. Pretty impressive stuff.
Exactly right. Once they get the swelling out if the knee is still stable enough you can definitely ride moto with it especially with a brace... right up to the point that you catch your foot and twist the crap out of your knee. Ask me how I know lol.
There are stories of racers who went through their careers without knee ligaments. IIRC, Windham was one of them and he didnt run braces. Thats freaking gnarly if you ask me.
Langston rode his whole career without an ACL. I think RC had a season with no ACL as well.
And LaRocco.
Thrasher has been really, really good so far. If he continues to build and become more consistent, he could be a true title threat once the Lawrences are out of the 250 class. Heck, he's already in the hunt this year (not that I think he'll beat Hunter, but he's in the conversation of course).
ACL’s are more of a luxury in the grand scheme. My knee without an ACL is way better than my knee that has had the ACL replaced 2x. Even NBA is players out there without ACL
With a name like "thrasher" what did you expect? Dude's a baller...
I think Jason Thomas has said he didn’t get one fixed
Pit Row
On Pulp 500 McGrath said he rode most of his career with a tear and RC seemed really surprised by that. Of course he paid for it and said he had a total knee replacement since.
Maybe some find it more difficult than others. I know when mine tore I also tore the meniscus and my MCL felt like my lower leg wasn’t attached right anymore once the swelling started to go down. For me skipping surgery wasn’t an option.
I think DV also tore his ACL when he was young and never had it repaired. I believe he said he did different exercises to keep his knee strong and tight.
