I have been using VP for the past couple of years. I have a two stroke that I run C12 in and I usually run VPR or T4 in my four stroke. My son has a pw50 that I have been putting T4 in, I know there’s absolutely no need for it whatsoever but for as little fuel as that thing uses and as little as I ride, I figured why not, it’s good clean fuel and better to use it than let it go bad.
Well I just pulled the cylinder to do a top end and noticed a bunch of hard glossy black gunk on the ports and in the base that seems to flake off if you pick at it. I have read other threads here where it seems others have had similar issues. What the heck is going on with their fuel??? I remember the recall they had a couple years ago but I never had any of that fuel with those batch numbers. I would try to contact them but if I could even get someone on the phone, I doubt they’d care. I think it’s time to just be done with them. I’m sure this crap is in my four stroke too. I hope to god my two stroke doesn’t look like this, but I haven’t heard of anyone having issues with C12 yet. I will find out soon enough though as I’m doing a top end on that too.
I’ve never seen anything like this before and I hope I’m wrong but given the experience others have had I have to think this is from the fuel??

Run MR12. Itll make the PW50 rip. We used T4 for a bit but the MR12 will light it up off the start.
And is your oil pump functioning properly?
As far as I know it was. About half way through this year I converted it to premix though. Can’t get MR12 in NY. Even if I could, I don’t know if I trust using anything VP anymore.
I believe the mystery black coating is exactly what folks were seeing with the bad batches of T4/T4+.

I reached out to VP and sent emails to 3 different people. Only one responded and said, "
There was not a company withdrawal of T4+. There were some compatibility issues on a few late model bikes dealing with the fuel pump. If you've experienced this, send us the picture of your fuel labels or give our motorcycle tech line a call at (210) 241-1192. "
I'm done with VP will be trying out some fuel factory fuel.
I figured it out!!! .
Yeah if I can remember right correctly it looks just like the pictures others have posted.. and I think some of them were also from guys using VPR or T2, and I believe they were using fuel that wasn’t recalled. I can’t believe they haven’t done another recall or anything on these fuels.. it seems like they really just don’t care.
T4 is not leaded.
Regular unleaded is 85 octane anywhere you go. Your running like 98 octane.
87 in Texas
Right but they’re cautioning against using a leaded fuel, not a fuel with a higher octane. I don’t see how using a higher octane fuel can lead to black sludge… the same black sludge others are experiencing using VP fuel.
It is simlar to what I found in my intake track. I ran VP T4 for the first half of the year and then Renegade. So, I'm not sure which one it was.

the only place I've seen 85 is in elevation. Mostly New Mexico, CO. Everywhere else is 87.
