Does anybody have any experience with the newer moose wheels? I am considering getting a set as i'm on the Moose Team, run moose gear & order quite a few of their hard parts. Wheels are not something I want to risk. I race moto & off road. +25 & +30 expert. Ramp quite a bit.

Moose seems to be pretty aligned with quality & price points so I feel this could be a good middle of the road wheel set, although not entirely sure!

I run them on my bike and I'm a rep for the brand.  I race offroad and have beat on them pretty damn hard and they have been flawless but I have maybe 30 hours on them total.  They are sourced through G2 Ergonomics which has sourced all the wheel parts for moose since I can remember.  I've use their rims and spokes for at least 10 years and haven't even dinged a rim before-they are super strong.  Fun fact, the anodized nipples from the spoke kits thread right on as well.

Thanks for this!! Helps a lot. I know moose doesn’t really manufacturer in house, was not sure who they sourced through.

I’m definitely planning on getting a set!

Never used the full wheels, but I got some of the spoke sets thinking they'd be a cheaper alternative to the Bulldog spokes I normally use.  Got about 15 hrs out of them (laced to DID STX Rims) before I started breaking spoke nipples.  Went back to Bulldog and problem solved.   I do think my riding conditions are somewhat hard on wheels (big jumps, square edges and hard-ish dirt).

Dang. I wonder if they spoke kits are a different manufacturer than the complete wheel

Pretty sure they are the same ones.  I used their newest, current MX-1 spokes. not their older ones that they sold as either "coated steel" or "Stainless"

My friend was in a pinch and had a Moose rim and spokes laced up to a stock hub. This configuration did not fare well and spokes broke at the hub in several locations. We were riding high-speed desert though, so it's pretty harsh.

Most of us did fine with OEM Honda wheels and a few Warp 9s. The Warp 9s were a pleasant surprise.

I've also used Bulldog spoke kits and have always been really impressed. Solid products.

Lastly, TCR Wheels has been great to work with on building/repairing wheels.

As always, you get wht you pay for.

I've got a set of their rims and spokes laces up to OEM KTM hubs. They have been great so far. Strictly used for Rocky east coast woods with bibs. Not the harshest wheel environment, but certainly not the easiest.

I used a set of Moose rims with oem hubs and spokes, for MX and XC. No issues with the rims, and it seemed like the black color on the edges didn't wear off as much as on other rims.

You guys that broke spokes, did you have a good wheel builder put them together and tension them?  I’ve put hundreds of hours on a few sets of them and only broke them any after a ton of hours.

I can totally see this happening with a freshly laced wheel. Your going to have to check spoke tension after a bit and riding desert is going to be very harsh on a new wheel if your not able to re torque them. Maybe you did and it still happened, but just a theory.

Who built the wheels? Broken spokes typically indicate issues with either the build quality and in some cases quality of the spokes themselves.  If it happened quickly I would lean towards build quality.  Seen it happen to a few race teams Grant Langston being the most memorable.

It was a shop in SW Arizona - and it did happen fairly quick - so I agree, likely install problem now that you guys spell it out more.

My point isn't to bash any products, just share what I've seen - relevant to the question.

Takeaway - there are some wheel products HIGHLY tolerant of abuse - here's one:
My personal take is Bulldog spoke kits simply are beefy enough to survive marginal install (maybe even poor), poor maintenance, and extreme riding abuse. I cracked rims before having issues with Bulldog spokes. <--- Meant for riders super hard on wheels

I had to drill a set of Kawasaki hubs to fit Bulldogs in the past. My buddy did not mind, but that may turn some people off.

I like to think I'm a pretty good wheel builder.  😁  Based on doing countless wheels and experience across multiple bikes and different wheels/spokes tell me the Moose nipples themselves failed.   Like I said, I think my particular conditions test wheels pretty hard, so I am sure lots of people could use the Moose spokes and wheels and never have a problem.

Haha I get it!  I can lace wheels but I'm lucky that I have some dealers with expert wheel builders so I have them do the final tensioning on them and I've had really good luck.  Bummed they didn't work for you!
