Charlotte SMX start?

I was looking at the track layout for Charlotte race and it shows it starting from both sides of a center lane through the race track.  My question is are they going to start each moto from both the left and right of center into a 180 degree turn at the same time?  What could go wrong if this is the format?

Poll

If it starts this way will it work out well?

They have done this several times in the past, most recently at monster energy Cup.

They almost always build the middle up to a big berm so by the time both sides are together they are going in the same direction.

I like it! The split lane over under will be interesting.

I was going to say that seems like that would make it plenty safe but looking at the map they will be coming right through the center after the first lap, curious to see how they lay it out in real life.

Thats not a joker lane, right?

I wouldn't think it was a joker lane, just a very different split lane. Really though, I don't know

Hmm that’s a good point. Will be interesting to see how they design it.

Been to Z Max Dragaway many times… It will be interesting to see how they make safe (not sure if they are movable?) the concrete barrier walls between the lanes at this 4-wide Dragstrip…🤔

Definately will be weird watching MX/SX racing and then be back for the NHRA Pro-National 2 weeks later 🤓

I was just there a few weeks ago myself. Great drag strip. Gonna be weird As a MX track though.

Regarding the split lane, how could going over the bridge possibly be faster than going under it?

Go rewatch the 2017 Monster Cup when Marvin won the Million. Also a split start and most ridiculous holeshot I've seen from Marv too

The entry and exit speed to the whole section should be significantly higher if you choose the line with the bridge.

EIDave’s business anniversary poped up on Facebook about his 1st Pro race he attended and it was was a SX in Chicago thats was built on a drag strip and Dave mentioned the barriers had the track going over them and running off the track with barriers there seemed dangerous

Split lanes are never interesting, they will use blackfish or whatever and see which is faster and that will be it for 1 of the lanes.

Will only take a few practice session laps and they’ll work out which one is faster.

And that's why I think it'll be interesting. If it's considerably closer it can definitely be interesting.

Here's how they work around and over the barriers:

That's a better view. So I guess they will put those big tough blocks in the middle for safety at the start and hope no one get pushed wide.

As someone attending the race I hope no good passes are happening in that back section because you wont be able to see shit over there. Hopefully they have some screens up as well but not sure where theyd put them.

If it's wet and the faces start rutting, those concrete walls should make some gnarly kickers.

Roger must have had all the whoops taken out....   (sarcasm)

Nice to see something different for a change.   SX tracks have become mostly boring aerial gymnastics shows (except Daytona/Atlanta).

whoa, the animated track map changes things quite a bit. I thought the track was pretty boring on paper, but this looks intense

Am I crazy, or does it look like the left side start straight will get ruts worn in it from where the track re-enters the stadium? And the right side straight (the one with a RH first turn) won't get rutted at all?

No ruts and a RH first turn, seems unfair.
