Has anyone had their ECU remapped? I’m thinking of having twisted development do mine. Just looking for feedback on what the performance gains were.

18 KTM 450SXF. TWISTED remap of stock ECU. More/smoother power everywhere. Only one map available after remap. Doesn’t matter because you will only want to run Twisted’s. Traction control still available. Very satisfied.

It is one of the best and easiest mods you can do. I have had TokyoMods do my 2013 KX, 2019 KX and 2013 CRF and it made each one better (smoother, crisper, more linear).

Tokyo Mods is closer to me and it’s cheaper, but I’ve heard some bad things on this forum. Everything has been good so far for you?

Yes, my experience has been great. Quick turn around and they work great. I also got a Vortex with their mapping for my KX and once I set the TPS correctly, it worked great.

I thought the newer KTMs ( '21, '22) had locked CPUs which could not be remapped???

Do you always have to mess with the TPS or was that just something specific to you?

The Vortex required a more specific setting of .601v compared to the broad setting range for the stock ECU. The vortex wasn't working as well as my flashed OEM ECU and the team at TokyoMods recommended I check where the TPS was. I can't remember how far off it was to the Vortex spec, but that was the problem. I bought the Kawasaki wiring harness adapter for checking it which I do periodically. It is easy to do and the adapters were not that expensive.

Do you by chance have the part number for the adapter for checking the TPS?

Yes. I’ll post it later today with the service manual procedure.

Check TPSTool.com. Believe it's model 3 we need. You can buy the adapter on Amazon for $36.95 with free shipping. I'm going to order one later.

The TPS wiring harness adapter is part number 57001-1400. The power supply connector is 57001-1881. You need both to check the TPS with a digital multimeter. AgentOrange, thank you for posting the TPSTool.Com.

I called and asked. He said he takes them to the KTM dealer and has them unlocked. So for $100 you get your ecu unlocked and a tune. I’m tempted to send mine there to get it unlocked and see how his tune is then send it to twisted and have them put their program in it and sell my vortex.

The vortex is great. I frequently use the adjustments to change the power characteristics based on where I'm riding, etc.

I love it, but out of the 10 maps I only like 2 and it’s the max power map and the just slightly less power map so all those options and I leave it on one setting all the time. If I only have one with the stock ecu and it’s the same as twisted max power map then why not sell the vortex and use the money on something else?

Yes. Said he can only program if he has one of the bikes in the shop at the time and has to take the ecu to the KTM dealer down the street from him to get it unlocked. Seems kinda sketch to me since it’s only $100 and who knows if it’s even as good of tune as twisteds is.

Went with Tokyo Mods. With the price point, it was worth the gamble on whether they’d be as good as Twisted Development. I’ll post some thoughts for anyone interested after some riding.

What bike?

Was going to send mine for my '17 350 to twisted but my kids bike needs full rebuild and a revalve and I wouldn't mind saving some $..

I really like it. I feel like I got a little more power all around. No negatives to speak of. I usually run the white coupler, and like I said before, this seems like more overall power all around.

I have a vortex in my 350 from twisted, definitely helped with flameouts, originally had the stock ecu remapped by TZR and it was better and picked up some power but I think the stock ecu is limited alittle compared to a get or vortex, long time ago I had my kx250f remapped and it ran Better, alittle while after I did some testing and it did not make any more power than the stock one but definitely helped out in ride ability. I wouldn’t hesitate again to go the vortex route again, I would imagine it doesn’t really matter who remaps it, as long as they take there time and test the maps it should be a good end result.

are you able to have them remap just one of the couplers and switch back to other 2 if want to? i want to send it out but i dont want to have to always run vp, hoping i can tune one coupler jus for race weekends then switch back to white coupler for training.

Yes. They only remap one of the couplers. You can tell them if you’re going to run race gas or not and they’ll tune it for that.

The Kawasaki handheld tuner is the best option for that but the price is hard to swallow. Maybe look for a used one. They all will allow tuning of 2009+ regardless of part number.
