Looks like he cut shallow slots thinking something but guess it didn't work. I cleaned and tried to tac a nut like I have a time or two before but this top plate is sloppy loose and no ground to it.

Any suggestions before lock up shop, find a shade tree and a 5 pound sledge and beat it until I buy a new one?

With terms like "sloppy, loose, pound, beat it, nut", I must admit that this is the most unfulfilling "BJ" thread I've ever seen... or not seen.

OK, I'll give it a shot:
BJ = Ball Joint?
Looks like some type of control arm from a vehicle / atv?

Control arm and a spindle that needs the ball joint removed? If it is. The two need to be separated first to get the ball joint out of the control arm.

Can clearly see a castle nut and spindle so most likely from a 4 wheeler. I would try to press the ball joint out with a press or vice if you have it. Most parts stores will borrow you a press or do it for you if you take it in.

That's a Polaris ranger shock hub. At least that's what Polaris calls it. I'm a full time dealership tech and work on those day in and day out. Your best bet is a die grinder and a good carbide bit. You may get lucky. I actually had one two days ago do the same thing, ended up just having to replace it. About $350

Thanks Ian. I will try the die grinder once I get the time and hope to not have to buy new.

I can not believe that Polaris made these where you can not push it out from the other side.

And the replacement ball joints are "lifetime greased". Ha

Yep, the Polaris engineering department needs their heads checked when it comes to a few things. One thing I have done is drill into the BJ cavity and put a small grease fitting in it. And then when it's time to replace the BJ, I just pump it full of grease and the joint pops out.

I got it. Was able to cut and bend the outer casing down and welded a nut to it and it came right out. The other side came out with heat and grease pretty easy.
