Do the old school conversion like everybody did that had one...you know...pulls the lights (already gone on this bike) and strip off any of the extra crap, knobby tires, gunnar gasser throttle, maybe a Petty front fender
I'm thinkin' an MX style restoration and race it in local vintage class MX and Offroad events.
or...
Strip it down and part it out on eBay
I'll get some pics tomorrow...it's stuffed behind the boat under a huge pile of boxes, camping gear etc. etc...it's 99% complete and I got the usual story "it ran great when I parked it" when my buddy gave it to me (100%FREE). Looks like some cables and a throttle and it would actually be ridable!!

I say finish the restoration, get it tagged and ride it... work, store, wherever. Don't strip it down.
Wanna sell it??

Hell yea, ride it! You can find the parts if you're patient. Pipe will help you.

I'm gonna make me a grocery getter out of this - just got the seat fixed and it's ready for the tear down and rebuild:

Totally agree.
72 was the first purpose built MXer. It was a one year only model.
In 73 they introduced a new MXer which used a new motor configuration. The 74 mxer's were the same other than BNG's.
The DT-1 enduro's were essentially similar thru 73. They ran up thru the F model in late 71, early 72 then added a reed valve and called that model the DT-2. 73's were DT-3's.
The DT-1's were pretty evil handling bikes. Companies made a mint selling fork kits, aftermarket shocks, frame lowering kits etc etc.
In 74 they finally scrapped the chassis and adopted the MX chassis and motor for the enduro bike.
I didn't have time to get it out in the daylight today. One thing I do remember about the engine is that it does have a reed valve. So that makes it a DT 2?? The shield on the exhaust says 250, and the tank is orange with white YAMAHA letters painted on the side. I don't see any enduro labels/logos on it.
ditto

My question is, is he still riding the Playboy Centerfold model? " title="Razz">
Pit Row
Stipped it down later and it looked a lot like the one G-man had except I painted the tank black.

BTW, those grooves on the pic are tire tracks. I rode the same bike to the drug store to pick up my prints. Dropped them on the way home and they got run over. My girlfriend's brother had taken the pic's but at that same race she hooked up with some guy from Iowa City (big city dude) while I was doing my moto and dumped me the next week. The pic's getting run over kinda fit.
Ahh the memories.
Wow... we were a year late. Looks like a '71 then?

That bike in the picture is definitely the same as mine - '71 DT-2 it is!!
Thanks!!
I did get it uncovered today...no way I'm posting pics until I at least hit it with some water!! It's pretty rough, but now that it's in the shop...a little rubber cement and some duct tape, could be ridable!!
I put this picture on my desktop for inspiration...thanks!!

That picture is a carbon copy of everything I used to do when I was a kid.
work boots, jeans, black tape numbers on the helmet...I used to think I rode like Kent Howerton...when he was on a Husky!!
The Dit 1 (or 2..I geuss??) project came from my own memories and a lot of Pete Szlyagyi,Super Hunky, Ed Hertfelder, and Paul Clipper stories about this bike. I rode one a lot every summer at my uncles house when I was really to small to ride it.
I wonder if this thing runs??
NOW what do you guys think??

I think we already determined it was a 71... and these pictures confirm that? No?
