there is not many riders that go from WSBK to moto GP, normally you need to go through moto 2, not sure if yamaha will come up with that deal,

but it highlights how much the suzuka 8 hours means to the japanese teams,

The number of guys that did great on World Superbike only to fizzle at MotoGP was always surprising.

Well in a reverse situation what MotoGP guys have gone on to be World superbike champion?

I can only think of one, Max Biaggi the others have struggled for the most part.

Goes to show each series is unique in itself with the bikes and the different tracks.

They only go WSB when they’re washed up & don’t have a ride in Moto GP. Marquez would make Rea look stupid if he moved over.

That is why I always have tons of respect for Ben Spies. He first overcame the AMA towards WSBK gap and then he jumped from WSBK to MotoGP and he became a top5 guy in the MotoGP.

Well Marquez makes most of the field in MotoGP look stupid if you want to go there, very few Riders can hang with him.

He has that bike and series very dialed in. I forget which track it was but they did a comparison on lap times and Rea was very close to the top riders in MotoGP.

Also I would not say Max Biaggi was washed up when he went to world superbike he just could not get the ride he wanted and Rossi was killing everyone.

About my profile pic. A friend of mine sent me a load of pictures & a couple of videos of the this girl. She’s apparently the daughter of a once famous football player (soccer) Luis Figo. Anyway most of the pictures are model shots including the one in my profile picture but the videos are of her riding some guy & sucking him off, basically a celebrity sex tape.

Rea went ok when he had a fill in ride on a honda, and he was instructed not to crash as well,

the Kawi is the bike to have in World SBK for the last 5 years, it will take a good team and rider to take him down,

Bautista didn't do crap in MotoGP, 8 years and no wins. Shows up in WSBK at 34 and takes 16 wins in his first season. Spies takes the Championship with 14 wins his first WSBK year and then gets 1 win in 4 MotoGP seasons. Edwards wins two WSBK championships with 31 wins in 5 years, spends 11 years in MotoGP with no wins.

Spies and Edwards were solid riders in MotoGP and I was a fan but they were not the top tier guys they were in WSBK. You could argue that without the injuries Spies would have got there eventually but it would have taken time.

Valid points indeed. Smile I hope you guys aren't interpreting this as me thinking world superbike Riders are as fast as MotoGP Riders.

Bautista is a head case for sure, there was one year when he was dicing in the top 5 positions in MotoGP.

As far as the 16 wins that's a little bit misleading as world superbike does double headers on the weekend these days. I don't recall if they've always done it like that I don't think so in the Colin Edwards era?

As far as the premier motorcycle road racing I would put WSBK second on that list.

Oh but then there is this --maybe this really is the granddaddy of all road racing-- if you make one mistake you can die!!!

It's been at least 10 or 12 year ago when I was still living in Vegas. My wife and I were out for a walk and saw this old guy, at least 80 walking toward us wearing a faded IOM t-shirt. I commented on it and he gave me a fairly hostile glare and asked if I knew what that was. Said I was very familiar. Then he glared at me again and said "I'm Welshman, do you know what that is?" I grinned and said my mother's maiden name was Jones. He gave out a whoop called me "brother" then he started to talk. Turns out he did the TT a number of times and the old Irish road courses back in the 60s. I went to dinner with him once and then back to his apt. He still had his old pudd'n bowl helmet, some trophies and some very cool pictures including him with John Surtees. One of his arms bent in a rather ugly way from banging it on a telephone pole. Lost contact with him, but he was a crusty old bastard, a lot fun.

I thought Scott Russell had a respectable effort in the 500GP’s after his superbike success. He was on the Suzuki so it was almost a given that he would struggle against the Honda and Yamaha efforts. He didn’t stay in MotoGP long though. I enjoyed watching him race in the AMA; he was a great rider in wet conditions.

That article makes Toprak seem like a spoilt twat. He was too hard on tires so Kawasaki went with riders who could conserve them better. Seems like a smart deal, and with Lowes alongside Rea they have two race winning riders anyway. Toprak should take it onboard to learn how to conserve tires better.
