They got out ok.
Part of the news story.

At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured.

According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling.

It is hard to believe they weren't killed the way that cab gets crushed in the video.

I was reading somewhere about the structure itself and how it shouldnt have fallen that easily knowing that motor vehicles would be going under there. Sooner or later youre gonna have somebody dink the top with a tall truck or trailer.

It's hard to believe they don't make people have a specialized license to tow those monsters. Or in this guys case, an IQ test. I dont buy his story. He thought he could fit. He was probably planning on going through the McDonald's drive-through for a burger after he cashed his check.

Yeah that seemed a little too easy to bring the whole structure down. Bad design.

The thing is cantilevered, look how far it overhangs and it certainly isn't anchored inside the building. Someones gonna get fired and otherones are gonna get sued.
