I believe most parents would trade their life for their child’s. Meaning you would walk into an oncoming train if it meant saving your childs life.

So how could you then trade your child’s life for a train full of strangers? This doesn’t make a lot of sense. What if instead of 500 it was only a train full of 5 people? What if it were 5,000 people?

Bottom line I’m saving my child. If I’m willing to die for my child then I’m willing to pull the lever and send the train over the cliff to save my child and I will live with that. What I could not live with is knowing I could have saved my child and didn’t.

I ask my wife these kids of questions and she’s actually a lot better at answering then I am. Lol

For example: let’s say your wife and two children are kidnapped. The kidnappers say they will release everyone but the wife has to pick one child to be killed first. If she doesn’t pick them they will all three be killed. Who and or what choice do you pick?

Hopefully, none of us ever find ourselves in such a horrible dilemma. If Jessica is NOT my daughter my faith tells me to do nothing...it's a no win situation...it's in God's hands. If Jessica is my daughter the decision is much harder. My faith is obviously not strong enough.

I didnt shame anyone. Your shitty comprehension of the english language has failed you once again.

I actually was giving props to someone who was willing to admit they had a "me first" attitude.

I dont really care for morals. And honestly, neither do most of you. The moral thing to do is to save the 500 people. Most of you have no problem admitting you're going to ignore logic and morality and just self serve. The only thing odd I find about that is that it makes you feel uncomfortable to admit that your decision is morally wrong & illogical.

The OP had to throw Hitler into the mix just to try and tip the scales somehow in favor of Jessica. And again by making the girl your own daughter. The "right" decision isnt even in doubt here.

Here's the real topic worth discussing

Why did the rail company leave a functioning rail switch in place that terminates to a broken bridge?

Jessica cures cancer and saves WAY more than 500 lives. Lose 500 to save millions?

This is a question that can’t truly be answered, because we all have time to think about it. In high pressure situations such as this, there is no time to think, only time to act. Logic and reasoning are out the window and instinct takes over. Some people may flip the lever and save Jessica before they even realize the bridge is out, others may just freeze up and do nothing. I think if the train is far enough away that you have the time to see both options and the consequences of each, weigh out the pros and cons, and then make a decision you can live with, then the train is far enough away to free Jessica.

That was Brian's job, he died yesterday and the rail company are a few men down so the switch which shorted yesterday has still yet to be replaced.

Brian was a generous, friendly, loving husband and foster father to 4 children. Unfortunately one of the children went batshit fucking crazy and wiped out the entire family. Turns out the kid was traumatized by being the only survivor of a nasty incident involving a train a few years back. Her real father is still inside....... Woohoo Huh Whistling Evil Whistling Cool Wink

How can you know that would be the moral decision without knowing every possible variable or outcome? Where do you get your standard of morality? Is your standard fluid? If yes, does that fluid morality apply to the OP's hypothetical situation?
