I REALLY hope this does not turn into "i think it would be best if I begin to prepare for a-1 2013....blah blah blah". Looking forward to seeing him ride Southwick and DIlla. He rides out the outdoors and keeps improving, he is going to be a force to be reckoned with SX '13.

Has there been any update on the actual injury? Did they find anything? Or was it just a severe sprain or something?

Seems to have gone quiet again in the JS7 camp.

No. In general, you're not supposed to cross the track while it's "hot" (during a race), but I think they do realize that you occasionally have to cross the track to get to specific areas. We have a weekly safety meeting in the media center, and they highlight areas that are unsafe and off limits, areas that are pass-through (you can move through them, but can't stand there), and some official crossing areas.

Mostly it comes down to common sense.

They've also asked everyone to watch out for each other, and look for some of the more veteran photographers to particularly watch out for people who may be new or unfamiliar with the action (like some local media).

As for the photog, I can't for the life of me figure out how he didn't realize he was crossing at a bad time. I've mentioned elsewhere that I crossed in the same place, a lap earlier. Obviously my outcome was a whole lot better than his. From where he crossed, you could see the riders all the way from the top of the hill, through the downhill, and the downhill leading to where the crash happened. It wasn't a visibility issue, it was a common sense issue.

As an aside, I was talking with someone at the Team Yoshimura Suzuki Racing truck at Budds Creek, and was told that James had planned on switching up his line the lap that he went down, moving to the inside to get away from the kicker on the outside line.

Speaking of the photog crossing the track....

I was watching The Moto: Inside the Outdoors 2011 Red Bud Episode.
There is a clear shoot of a photographer crossing the track just yards in front of Reed and Dungey as they battle through a whoop section...it's at minute 9:50 if you want to see it on youtube here:

I don't think many are blaming it ON the photographer but many do think it played a part in it. Refer back to the common sense thing. I do know at ANY of OUR speeds it wouldn't have been an issue. I am able to look at all kinds of shit alongside the track.

yeah, i was watching an episode of gilligan's island yesterday and maryanne jumped out in front of the skipper, thought he would have wadded up for sure, but it didnt seem to bother him either, crazy.

hope stewart is back next week for sure....

If they would have dropped the gate 10 seconds later that photog would have been in a different spot on the track; therefore whoever dropped the gate 10 seconds early played a part in James' crash. Let's blame him.

Media guy may have played a part in the crash. Nobody knows. Nobody ever will. Please move on and hope Stewart is physically able to return to the Nationals at some point and leave it at that. My question is does he WANT to race the DesNations for the USA? Has he been in contact with DeCoster and Payton regarding that? Historically speaking Stewart does not race just to race and this title is gone.

Remember he said many times he is racing for FREE this summer. That means ZERO. No win bonus money from Red Bull, Oakley, Answer, etc regardless of results. Not a dime.

Whether the photog played a significant part in the crash or not - only Stewart knows for sure and he's obviously going to say that it did cause the crash because it shifts at least some of the blame away from him. That's not really criticizing him - it's a pretty natural reaction for many people in many situations.

What most people are agreed on is that it shouldn't have caused him to crash. Hope he's back soon anyway, Dungey runaways are pretty boring.

Great reply.

However I must be ignorant towards my own ignorance because, as I understand it, James crashed about 150 yards after it was apparent he wasn't going to hit the photog.

Don't even bother replying to this because no matter how clearly I can make it you're still going to see what you want to see; and keep this in mind, I'm a JS7 fan.
