Good Read, Dave Ostermans was good also.

Sounds like Reeds crash has put him riding a little bit more in his comfort zone. Hopefully by next year he'll be back hanging it out a bit - it takes time.

What I thought was interesting: Someone said earlier, it's a rule the rider must start his own bike (not really sure on that) Sounds like Dungey accidentally stalled the bike - may have been a blessing if that's really a rule.

Not long enough between motos? I have to assume that these bikes are in A1 condition at the start of moto 1. What needs to be done between motos? Are modern bikes incapable of running 2 motos without major work?

Can't blame the TV schedule, those are the rules. Same for everyone and they know in advance. He says he feels sorry for the privateers and yet they managed to start their bikes without all the help.

Someone screwed up somewhere along the line. Maybe not the mechanics fault but at least accept it attempt to put it right - not put it all down to bad luck. It's not like it's the first time it happened - how many times can you be unlucky? I'm guessing NASA won't be recruting national mechanics after all - unless they want to rebuild the shuttle 2 minutes before returning to earth.

faceaz that is a rule but I think it only applies to after you have actually started the race in the event of a crash or you stall your bike

Good read all the way through the mid week report. I need to make a point to watch for that more often. Weird thing was seeing Ozzy's words in paragraph form! The Husky 125 looks pretty amazing, comes with a 144cc kit and retails for $5999.00. That's a bargain in todays world of motocross bikes. Now Husky, Yamaha, TM and KTM all have 125's it will be interesting to see what approach any or all of them take to restore the 125 class to a key piece of the MX pie here in the US.

That Husky 250F engine looks compact. The chromoly frame looks like it gives a good bit of access room for working on it. Other than the two major blow ups both of our 250F's suffered, the biggest complaint I've ever had about either of them is how difficult it is to do anything to them. Simple stuff like pulling a carb or changing a spark plug is always a pain in the rear.

That was a pretty good swat at DC from Goose, he usually doesn't come off as outspoken as that.

I was walking with GuyB down the hill when he almost got hit. I was just across the walkway from him, as he'd just crossed over to the other side. To say Goose ALMOST hit him is an understatement - it was terrifyingly close with both wheels locked up and sliding and, had he hit him going as fast as he was, GuyB would never be the same! Also probably wouldn't have gotten the #5 down there in time, but still. 'Twas almost real ugly.

Sticking to the same schedule we've always had isn't really my fault, but I will take some of the blame for the TV package.

There is no 2-minute rule, and the bike wasn't on the line anyway. I am sure the officials decided it better to start on time rather than make the other 39 guys sit there in the rain....

I am glad they didn't wait for RD because you can guarantee they wouldn't have waited for Joe Bloggs. Following the rules and format consistently is a good thing and preserves the integrity of the series and the sport.

I have a ton of respect for Goose but him trying to blame you, or the schedule, really doesn't sit well with me. Who knows who fucked up, it doesn't sound like it was Goose, but to blame DC or the AMA is rediculous. Man up, learn from this and move on. Something could have been done to avoid this, figure out what it is and make sure it can't happen again.

Actually, we are learning from this. Maybe the race bikes are too complicated now for the time allotted... The AMA Pro Racing Rulebook requires a minimum of 45 minutes, from the end of the first moto for a class and the start of the second moto for that same class (2.17,c). At Southwick, the first 450 moto finished at about 1:45 PM and the second moto started at about 4:10 PM. Despite the TV schedule the 450 class had approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes, from the end of the first moto to the start of the second moto. But it was really muddy, and they were having a bike problems, and these are four-strokes, and so on and so forth... It was a tough day for everyone. Even the TV production crew had problems with the timing of the start of the second moto, as we all know. It's all worth looking into, and we will.
