Good question! Did you see the speed they had last-Saturday in Vegas? Crazy. When they came back into the stadium I'd swear that was as fast as a "fast" outdoor straight...

55-60 I'm guessing heading up into Talladega. Maybe a smidge more. GH seems to be one of the more open tracks so they may run higher gearing there. So maybe 70?

I hope to god I'm never goin that fast on a motocross track, because I can guarantee you it won't be on purpose and sure as hell won't end well. Can you say, "whiskey throttle" haha.

What I'm more interested in knowing is how many more photos BL can fit into his signature.

I am surprised by these speeds. It is known that tracks in the US are faster but 75 is really high. It is more than a 5 gear on a WR250, which top at 72-73 if I remember well (something like 67 for the YZ250). Here in Europe, at a local level, the 5th gear could even be removed (4th gear pinned is about 60 max).

My Dad has always told me this... When he was working for Honda In the early/Mid 80's (Thorpe/Malherbe on factory RC500 Honda's era) Honda set up a radar speed trap on the start straight at Hawkstone park. (Legendary, UK
grand prix track) The start straight back then was at least a good 100m long in total. Its a lot shorter now. The factory Hondas were apparently clocked nearing 110mph as they went into the trees, or what's known as the "tunnel". How true this is, I'm not sure. But my dad ain't known for telling porkies...

I used to ride a CR500 off road and I can assure you 100 is easily attainable on the open stuff. Doing it in 100 yards??? I don't know unless you were doing 50 when you got to the straight.

While spectacular, there is no need for those kinds of speeds in moto.

We had an uphill start at our track that we constantly had to look for ways of slowing down. Kids loved it, but it was just so dangerous.

A true motocross course would never ever see these speeds.

Really? I'd have never guess that. Why don't they standardize? I thought we were the only ones who were afraid of going totally metric.Wink

rc was clocked on radar going 42 mph thru the whoops @ millville by the whoop monster. that to me is more insane.

Johnny Campbell's Race-prep XR600 was doing about 100 MPH with desert gearing in the mid '90s. I'd be surprised if an MX bike with moto gearing would be anywhere close to that. 75 maybe. 110? No way. Someone was talking in KPH.

That's pretty silly quick.

That track is definitely fast, but 160?

There are a couple long long hills that I can think of on that track, it'd have to have been the one before the left/right chicane right? The rest of them aren't as long and have lips leading into them...
