If they want riders to enter sooner back on to the track they need to make some gaps in the banners. Ac got back on track at the first available opening. Not his fault that's only place he could get back on
Actually there were still banners there. He wheelied over them. It would have been even further down the track if he waited for no banners.

The advantage he gained is that he didn't lose anything. That in itself is an advantage.

Why not make the rule you have to rejoin the track where you went off like in the old days? Problem solved.
NO. Not problem solved. The rule was changed for safety reasons. It's much safer to continue along side of track and reenter at a safe spot.

Don’t the rules basically say they must safely re-Enter without gaining time or position? That’s my understanding, and although adam goes off the track it doesn’t look like he gains time or position. It’s gonna be a hard call either way bc you can see it from both perspectives, but it does seem like AC followed the rules as written. If riders/fans/whoever think they should re Enter where they exited, or lose time for going off track, or whatever, then they need to lobby for a rules change, not be upset with it after the fact.

I guarantee Cooper is pissed cause he saw Ac pull in behind him when he looked over his shoulder over the jump, but what he didn't see a AC check up and made sure the gap was bigger than when he went off track.

Get rid of all the track banners if you want immediate re-entry.
Exactly! Try to wheelie over the banner and you will have that thing stuck in your rear wheel/sprocket.

NO not safer at all. Hell in SX you see guys go off the track and gas it off the side of the track for the next straight, swerving around flaggers and track workers, then jump back into the action on the track without missing a beat. Way way way more dangerous.

That said AC did what the (stupid) rules state and what all the riders do so no penalty.

Umm ... that's exactly what AC did.

Brittney,

Please tell your cousin congratulations on making through West Point and earning their commission in the US Army... that’s a big deal! From an old crusty field grade officer that is winding down his career it is exciting watching the next generation of officer take on the challenges we have all been through serving our country!

AC was within the rules, and looking at the replay now- where else could he have re-entered? There was a continuous banner/fence, and then another larger banner pretty much blocking off that whole corner area.

He had to go through a banner just to get back on, and then after he did, he noticeably let off for a second to make sure there was a gap

If you want to say the rule should be you have to backtrack and re-enter where you went off, ok. But that's not the current rule. So you can't say AC broke any rules.

It's gotta be a case by case decision because every track/corner/situation is unique. If there's places where you can get back on safely and you're skipping past to not lose time, you should be penalized. But if there's banners/fences in your way...

Because there’s too many banners nowadays.

Because back then it was 45+2...plenty of time to make up for a mistake. And now the side of the track is where med and photogs are gathered. Things have changed and so did the rules/judgements.

That's a reason the rule should be re enter where you went off IMO.
