I get it, new gear looks badass...

But what is the deal with, "Hey man, your shit is out of date, you need that new (insert brand name here) gear, bro, it's sick.....!"

I guess I don't get it. Getting back into the sport after being off for 4-5 years, I did as I did before, find 1 year old close out gear, and buy several sets I like.

Because of the Mn Vs moto series, I went off of my usual TLD/FOX/THOR, and ordered MSR gear. I actually think the 2013 stuff looks better than the 2014 stuff!

Have you heard someone actually say that, or are you just thinking people are saying it when you're wearing old gear?

Because, in my opinion, unless your gear is brand new, you shouldn't even be AT the track.

I've learned in this sport that the only way to operate is with the attitude that is F what anyone else thinks.

You wear the gear that you want or can wear. You ride how you can ride. If there was a massive sketchy jump at the track, would it be smart to do it because of peer pressure? If anyone slags on you, F them.

When I see people at the track taking gear out of their bag that doesn't still have the tags attached I punch them in the fucking face.

So, you wad up a lot?

Silly Silly Silly
Never ride in Baja, do ya?

They've got these Spcl-Endangered "Reach-Out Cactus" that actually "Eat" jerseys.

You end up with a tattered jersey from just "riding"...

No worries.

I know a guy that makes the Best Gear.

PERIOD

Im "Allured" to whatever Motorcycle-Superstore, Bob's, & BTO have in their clearance section!

When i can get Fox 360 pants for $49.99 I dont care what you have to say about them for that price they are completely awesome.

I was just funning with you about Baja...... and no I've never ridden there, and don't want to, especially with "Cam". Not a fan.

(plus, if I did, I wouldn't tell everyone on a forum)

Well, I sure look like a fool now! palm slap on forehead (I have ridden in Borrego, in the higher elevation, and some of the cactus there do the same thing)

I could care less what I look like, gear is overpriced for something that lasts as long as it does. I buy closout pants and rock old mismatched jerseys, one is a vented Fox Honda from the late 90's, I think. Run that one on the hottest of hot days.

Actually had some snot nose poser on a clapped out 125 in brand new still clean gear who'd ridden 3 laps all day tell me I needed new gear. The next time anyone saw him was on a milk carton. I got 200 bucks for fhat bike

I haven't bought a set of gear for 3 years, I got a set of brand new 2009 MSR gear in 2010 and I reckon it's still got another year in it. I ride every weekend as well, it's some tough stuff.

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say anything along those lines in my life.....

The allure is just that it looks good and you simply want it to pick up an extra 3 seconds a lap.

All my offroad gear is Malcom Smith Signature gear and it is old and durable. This gear has been down Baja many times, Chile twice plus countless other rides. Best gear ever. Just got back yesterday from a 3 day 500 mile DS ride in the area around Bend. Spent this AM cleaning the OLD Gear and washing the bike and filters.

My go for a quick ride gear is all 5 or 6 year old Thor and this also has been very durable.

I do ride with a new Bell Carbon Fiber helmet and fresh goggles

Im still running a set of alloy mx gear I bought on clearance in 2008. I've had maybe 3 other set of gear in that time, but when they get torn up I keep going back to the alloy.

I think with a certain group of riders it boils down to rider confidence. If you feel that you look like a pro, maybe you are more inclined to try and ride like one whether you are fas or slow. JMHO
