I have been watching both these guys race against each other since they were kids up here in the NW. I haven't really ever heard if they were real close as far as friends go , but from what i understand , they have always had respect for each other.

I don't know really anyone from RV's camp , but i know his uncle posts here quite a bit ( Uncleof2). But with Josh , he came and rode our indoor arenacross track and i used to be on friendly terms with his dad Monte. I had some good racing against Monte in the 250 INT, +25A and +30A stuff a few years ago , and he's always been a really cool guy when i talked to him. I know Josh is the same way....very , very good kid!

Us guys up here in the NW are going to witness two of our very own prospects come into their own this year. last year both of them had their fair share of bad luck and no real battles happened between them.

BUT.....i think this year is going to be a little different. I started thinking about how the battle has been going on for a few years now between James and Chad. Now....these two guys who don't care for each other one bit are going to have RV and Josh as their wingmen.

Some "team orders" could come into affect this season , and some really great racing is for sure going to happen. I just hope that when it's all over and done with that RV and Josh still have mutual respect for each other and can stay on friendly terms.

I don't think us NW guys have been put into a spot like this since the Ryan Huffman and Jason McCormick days.....only this time with Josh and RV....they are at the top of the food chain with Team mates , their team , bikes and so on.

I also hope that the fire between James and Chad doesn't pour into dirty riding shit between RV and Josh either. Because YOU KNOW fireworks are going to happen between James and Chad.....am i wrong?

I just wanna see some really good , "aggressive" but clean racing! But i'll be cheering for both of them!

ive watched Hill ride on a private track for a yamaha photo shoot. he did some stuff that just blew my mind. reed and all the rest at the time werent anything to watch compared to what hill showcased. hill would jump off the side of jumps/berms/anything and just fly blindly into the air, look down, and almost look as if he was picking his landing on the fly. he turned the sx track into a freeride track. i couldnt replicate it on mx vs atv if i tried.

Cannot imagine Josh or Ryan being lackeys for James and Chad..

Especially Josh working as hard as he's been; he's the one that needs to reestablish his career and future in the sport more than Villapoto needs to.

I think you guys are on the same page as i am here......I just hope the "Team tactics" that may be forced upon them , don't make them do something they'll regret. You have to admit , we have seen some pretty weird stuff over the past 4-5 years in this sport. And with one team having James and Josh and the other having Chad and RV......i still see some sparks flying this year......I can smell it! Just a weird feeling that the two fastest SX riders on the planet have two kids a lot of us knew up here in the NW , as their back up guy.

Don't get me wrong either.....Josh nor RV are "back up" riders.......just hope the two teams don't give out "kill or be killed" orders!

From what I've heard, Ryan has rode out at Josh's place a few times, so I think they have a "friendly" relationship. But they're definitely different types of dudes, so I don't see them hanging out too much. I'm sure on the track they'll have respect, but the desire to win almost always out-trumps that, correct?

Well Mike....to be honest , most of the country hasn't seen Josh at 100% since he's been on big bikes. A lot of the guys up here in the NW have seen what he's capable of. The heat race last year at Daytona was just a slight glimpse. Remember the one where he was in front of Reed , and actually pulled a little bit of a gap and won it? I don't even think then he was at 100%......i wouldn't be so quick the gun on the statement "Josh Hill ON HIS BEST DAY is not as fast as RV." Josh has a HUGE amount of talent.

Honestly.....i think that him and Rv compare a lot like RC and James did. RC was always the better racer like RV and Josh rides with a talent that's more like James. You also have to remember this will be Josh and RV's 2nd year on these big bikes......they'll make it interesting.

Well again.....this thread wasn't started as a Hill VS RV really. It was that they got put onto two different teams with team mates that would let alone kill each other. Weather Josh or Ryan finish ahead of each other to me doesn't really matter.....as long as they both place good. Also.....i see Josh running right on pace with RV indoors. Outdoors , RV is a madman for sure , but indoors.....You really haven't seen what Josh is capable of when he's healthy. We will all see within 3 more weeks.

This is without a doubt the funniest shit, and i do mean shit i have ever heard. Give me a break.

This definately comes from someone that has never done much on a dirt bike or any other professional sport. Everybody has those days. Remember the day that RV woke up and couldnt put a foot wrong....?? MXON at Budds ring a bell when he beat RC "The GOAT". You are a fool and your biased opinion has blinded you.

EVERYONE CAN AND WILL BE BEATEN.

So for you to say that Josh on his best day is not as fast as RV puts you into a class of fools with a dunce cap on.

Both JH and RV i predict will have great years so long as they can stay healthy.

Great post man!
I'm more of a Hill fan then I am a RV fan.
I remember Monte from back in the day also. Wink
The McCormick & Huffman battles were always epic, even when they were both on minis.
Jason always seemed to come out on top more.
I still have a video I shot from 1991 Seattle SX ,the morning am-races,of a Ryan & Jason battle when they were both in 125B class. The stuff on that track they were trying was insane and they were head to head every lap,to a photo finish.

Why do you think Kawi signed Reed??? Reed is the number 1 SX guy on that team now. When they get outdoors their there roles will reverse. Reed will then be the number 2 guy.

i honistly can c cr being pushed to 3'rd on the box by js and rv. and we all know rd, josh grant and hill are going 2 have their times up on the box. i just say 2 stay safe 2 all. i am personally pushing the most 4josh hill, because of the positive aspect of his comeback/turnaround.

RV will never be anybody's wingman. If anything CR will end up RV's wingman. RV is a championship racer not a guy that's there to help a teammate win. Before his surgery he won everything there was to win including two 450 sx races his rookie year an accomplishment that not even RC pulled off. Not too mention was probably on his way to dominating the outdoors last year. I personally think CR will finish behind RV in the SX championship this year and wouldn't be surprised to see RV battling with JS for wins all year long. I could be wrong but that's how i see it. RV will get 5 wins this year and CR will get 2. The rest belong to JS.

That's a pretty good guess Dan. Obviously James is always going to be right up front weather he gets a good start or not. With CR , RV , JH , JG, RD.....and guys like Brayton , T Hahn and host of others........DUDE , this SX season is going to be epic!

Weird thing is , i'm not looking towards Christmas and new years near as much as I am January 9th and A1. It's not only the start of the SX season....it's my Birthday as well....WHOOP , WHOOP!!! Man i crave this time of year!

back when they were on 80s I think they used to travel together.. I was at lake elsinore in january of 2001 and they were both on yz80s if I remember correctly. RV on that YZ80 was motoing with Darcy Lange on a KX250 impressive.
