Sprinter Vans

I'm looking into getting a sprinter van for moto racing. Interested in how many people are using them and how they like them. Interested if anyone knows the ave. fuel mileage?

Worth mentioning, in 2014 Ford will start selling the fullsize Transit van here in the USA, in both gas and diesel powertrains. Not sure if you're looking to buy new or not but it's another option out there for you.

We all use them in the UK. They will happily cruise along at 70-80mph returning 32-35mpg fully loaded with 3 bikes, gear, water butt, tools etc etc.

If you convert it into a day or weekend camper that goes down to 22-25mpg ish.


Just a word of warning. The new sprinters are not as good as the 2000-2006 models and I would take a VW LT or even the Ford over it now.

I think nissan has a bigger version of the ford transit. Maybe MWozney can chime in on his opinion on the nissan?

Not to divert away from the original topic too far, but I'm in the process of selling my car and am interested in getting a used van. Any advice on what models are best for hauling, gas mileage, durability etc.? Most of the stuff I've seen have been Early 2000's Econolines with anywhere from 100,000 - 200,000 miles. A lotta V8s, but a few V6s, which would be a bit more ideal.

we have an e250 extended van now and we love it but looking for some more room. mine is the 5.4 v8 ford and has close to a 100,000 miles and gets around 13 mph. no real problems with mine just needs a good service and should be good for another 100,000 and more. i think you will be more happy with a extended van. also i think they havent changed the fords from like the mid 1990s to 2005 or something so their real good vans. i would say also buy used if you find a in good shape van, if you buy new like i did they drop the value really bad. i often wish i bought used on my van.

When Valli started I found two in Washington (long bed with extended roof) with 60 and 65 thousand miles on them. The research I did before I started looking was to find 2006 models as they have the 5 cylinder Mercedes motors and get roughly 30 mpg. Paid $22500 for each and had them wrapped and they're still going...great rig!!

I purchased a 2013 Nissan NV2500 high top van and love it. Already went 30,000+ miles on it and love how it drives (besides when heavy winds come into play). Lots of room for bikes and stuff!

A buddy of mine bought a 2005 sprinter van with 300k miles on it just about 3 years ago and still uses it to this day to travel the entire NEATV series and a few ATV nationals. He makes about 1 trip per winter for florida to ride as well. He got it from a guy who bought it from DHL. He isn't the most attentive with maintenance either and it just keeps on ticking. Its a 158inch wheel base 5 cylinder, he gets about 22-25 MPG highway.......things are indestructible.

i checked out both websites of the fords and Nissans both look good, not sure if the nissans have an extended version or not.

i drive 2006 model sprinter everyday at work (UPS package car) and its very comfortable to drive, best van ive ever driven. Very durable too, the use is very rough and it has about 80 000 miles on it. Also many people here in Finland use them at motocross too. But sprinters are very expensive compared to others, and since its Mercedes Benz, the parts are expensive too if something happens.

I have ford transit van myself, registered for 6 people and it have room for 3 bikes in the back.
