I had long forgotten that Riddle-groupie. Grin

On Bess, a few years ago, a friend of mine was helping him get re-started in AMA AX. Shane had just experienced some real tragedy in his life, just months before, and the comeback fell through. I was the team truck driver and got to know him a bit and really like the guy.

Two other guys from that era that come to mind are Brian Gray and
Evan Laughridge(sp?). The last I saw Laughridge was at a Canadian
National I believe?

speaking of Shane Bess, i have his front tire and footpeg engraved on my upper back from an LL qualifier in Cedar City, UT.

Ryan Morais was leading the whole 125B moto and i was right on him, Bess was right behind me. last lap and maybe 3 corners to go, Bess way over-jumped (i'm sure it wasn't on purpose) a big step-up and landed right on me. needless to say i didn't qualify and never tried since.

haven't heard much on him in the last few years, other than i did see him at a Bookoo AX a couple years ago.

Laughridge is working for his dads construction company up here in Nor-Cal. I haven't seen him on a bike in many years. Not sure if he rides anymore.

I remember reading an interview w Bess a couple years ago and he said he orignailly quit racing becasue he wanted to hang out with his friends and thought he was missing out on his youth...so he did that and got a big tat on his neck, then tried to comeback at arenacross and that's the last I heard. Moto is brutal, once you quit, pretty much impossible to come back and win

IMO most just hit that burn-out stage, know I did in baseball. When the fun goes away time is running out and the body can only take so much of the brutal injuries till you say "I'm done"

yep i am pretty sure that was the year, that track was among the most fun i've ever ridden. i did really good in my 1st moto i think i was around 4th or so out of a full gate. i believe that incident was in the second moto, and would have given me a really good look at qualifying for LL.
