I am on the fence with my 2015 Honda 450. Clutch pull is heavy and vague. Race mainly GP/off road stuff at places like Glen Helen. I can't decide between a Core 3.0 or the new Torque Drive clutch, both by Rekluse. Anyone have experience with both?

Complete Torque-Drive is what I run.

I always claim I'm not an "Auto" guy; but, the new "CORE-EXP" & EXP auto-clutches are awesome. I've riden 250, 350 & 450 KTM XCFs (testing/demos) with them back to back against bikes without on a nice off-road loop: no real difference & I pretty much think of EXPs as "Anti-Stall-Insurance".

I -DID- use the auto feature on the 250...didn't toiuch the clutch lever the whole Ride including starting & stopping...

I've gotta admit.

Kinda Cool!

i definitely respect your opinion as we both live and ride the same kind of stuff. So, you are saying the torque drive is your favorite? I like the idea of the lighter pull.

I'm also interested in your opinion. The new torque-drive manual clutch has me intrigued with the lighter pull. I've ridden a friends rekluse auto and I wasn't a fan of it. I didn't like the "auto" aspect and I also didn't like the mushy feel it gave the lever. If the torque-drive is similar to a stock clutch feel (in terms of crispness of the lever - if that makes sense..not that mushy feeling) only lighter pull, that my persuade me to contribute $899 to the economy.

I ride a 2015 KX450F for reference.

It has been estimated that Americans will save about $900 this year on lower fuel cost due to the price of oil. I guess I know where your savings is going.

I heard POTUS say that last night during SOTU. Which is funny because his policies had nothing to do with the drop in oil prices. But I digress..

Realistically I'm not a heavy clutch abuser anyway so I don't need a clutch upgrade. But going by that logic, I also don't need a 2015 450, or dubya wheels, or exhaust, etc that's on the bike. F it - take my money, Rekluse!

haha, I actually hate the idea of spending close to a grand on a clutch, but the Honda clutch is a joke. I raced the worcs race last weekend and had arm pump in the left arm from feathering the clutch though the tight twisty sections trying not to stall the bike. I like a manual clutch, just want something lighter and with a progressive feel rather than the on/off vauge honda feel. The torque drive sounds perfect. Just want some real feedback.

The torque drive is the first rekluse clutch I have ever used (as of last friday) so I can not compare the products, but I will tell you it is Awesome. You can feel it out of the corners and in whoops it feels like a tractor and just wants to keep pulling!
The website claims its a new generation holeshot device and i dont know if my starts last weekend were just a fluke but those were the best supercross starts of my entire career last saturday night.

I usually just run a stock clutch: including the steels, fibers, springs, basket, and hub but I was able to get some help from rekluse this season and even though Ive only rode the bike 2 days I think its such a badass kit.

Why not try a Magura hydraulic clutch setup? Might be a cheaper option that keeps your hands busy while riding.

I feel like a 450 with an auto clutch is the epitome of the rider being more of a passenger rather than really riding and being engaged with the bike. It's like you can put it in 3rd gear and just use the throttle/brakes...

For pro racing, if its an advantage, im all for it. For a casual rider it seems like you'd want to be doing more on the bike rather than less.

Rhett did you ever find yourself "being lazy" as far as your gear selection goes with the Rekluse? That's the only "downside" I have ever heard about these types of clutches. I realize you don't have a lot of experience with it yet so no worries if you need more time.

EDIT: mtl touches upon this subject RE: 450 application
2nd EDIT: You are running the Torq Manual so never mind my auto clutch question.

HRC runs it in MXGP. The outter basket lasts FOREVER. The inner basket is a thing of Beauty. More Plates, better action, longer life...

It's a Win, Win, Win.

I've had the Core EXP for a year now. I love it. As Manny noted it is pretty much "anti-stall insurance." I only put the actual clutch pack in and used my stock Yamaha components with it. You take out a plate and a steel and put the Rekluse in place of it. Might be 2 plates and 2 steels, but don't remember off-hand. I had to make NO adjustments to my clutch after installation. It took me 20 minutes to install and I checked the adjustment according to the instructions it came with and it was fine as it sat.

For hard-core racers, I'd take Rhett's word for it, but all others - just get the Core EXP. Best $450 (or so) I've ever spent.

I rode the CORE EXP 2.0 for three years and just upgraded it to the 3.0.

I LOVE it...and my favorite is when people ride my bike and don't even know its there. So with the CORE EXP the clutch feel is identical to a traditional clutch. Like TeamGreen said, for me, its anti-stall insurance, as I still use the clutch like normal. But in an off road race setting, not stalling makes a huge difference in time. And, there are occasions where I will just not use the clutch lever at all, and cheat my way through on the rekluse...and that sure is nice.

I haven't tried the Torgue drive...but rekluse is top notch all the way around. So I'm sure its as great as they claim.

yes, the inner hub on the recluse stuff is a work of art, very innovative and their stuff is much better than Hinson IMO, as is their customer service.

Rhett, I also have a question for you, but it relates more to freewheel than anything else. can you tell the difference when you chop the throttle? It seems to me that any clutch that purports to eliminate stalling must also reduce engine braking. That would be a good thing for me.

Rhett is not running the Core model, he is running the torq drive manual. so no freewheel

Drastic reduction in Engine breaking. And it also means you can't push/bump start the bike.

Core EXP is awesome. I have had it on my 250 SX-F for about 50 hours, hardly any adjustments needed. I use my clutch as if it was never there but never stall even if I drop the bike or skid into turns.

Do they still run the 30-day money back guarantee? It's worth trying for sure!

Can you brake tap a core 3.0 over a jump without stalling?

There's a few folks in here that might be thinking the Torque Drive is an "Auto" like the Core: it's not.

Torque Drive is a manual clutch solution to the OEM clutch assemblies that wear out way too soon & get grabby or slippery pretty quickly. HRC in Japan & Europe have been running it for a while. I Tested it on a KTM Factory Services engine THOROUGHLY last year & it was AMAZING...& it lasted FOREVER. On a KTM you use the stock STEEL Basket.

I'm currently building a Husky 350 for The Rip to Cabo: thinking I'm goin' "Full Enduro". All the Rekluse goodies...Torque Drive w/ Core 3.

Pff, Torque drive/Core 3? I'm going to file a complaint with Austin, he said they weren't going to pursue that. Tongue
