Tommy Lister was a part of the moto community for a while when he was traveling to events on behalf of Monster. His character Deebo appeared in the timeless classic Friday. I got to talk with him a few times in the Supercross pits, and he was always really cool.

A couple days before Christmas break in 7th grade, a family friend called me, he was a sophomore in high school at this point, and by this time was well known for getting into all sorts of trouble. He talked me into ditching the last day before Christmas break, to ride my bike 5 miles to his house, so we could watch this new movie called "Friday", build some model cars and listen to some Grateful Dead. He said everyone ditches the last day and I'd be the only one there! I had no idea what "Friday" was about, but we always had a good time building model hot rods and listening to some dead, so I decided I'd go for it. The morning of the last day, my stomach was in knots, I said goodbye to my Grandma who was there to see us off to school as both of my parents left early for work. I proceeded on my normal route to school, before hanging a right turn once I was out of sight and heading for my friends house. Once I arrived, we rode to the donut shop, then back to his house to watch "Friday". It was probably one of the craziest movie I'd seen up to that point. With maybe Mad Max and Apocalypse Now being a close second, thanks dad! Anyhow, we eventually rode up to Hobby Shack, bought a model hot rod to build and returned to build it while listening to some dead and trying to smoke a few Marlboro reds. Eventually I rode back home, pretended like it was just another day at school, that was until the school called with an automated message saying I had been absent!! Shit! When questioned by my Pops, I crumbled and confessed to it. I spent that entire Christmas break doing all sorts of work around the yard, sometimes he'd run out of things for me to do, so he'd have me move the huge wood pile to a new location, only to have me move it back the next day! My friends and I always find some sort of way to use a reference to "Friday", either with a joke around a desert bonfire or a gif in our group text. "Friday" will always be more than just a movie for me. Rest in peace Deebo.

Damn...the dude was great in that role.
Those of you that met him at the races know how funny he was and what a joker he could be. I will miss that.
Rest in Peace Big Man. You will be missed.
