sorry, I didn't think they were that stupid
Still would love to see them add Dilla as a round.
And it's embarassing.
Pit Row
The France MXoN isn't a done deal and The British GP isn't happening all because nobody want's to come up with this huge sanctioning fee that only the rich Americans don't have to pay.
Looks like they have done what they said they would and wait for SX to finish before the first round. (I know SX Schedule isnt out yet but dates look pretty close to when it would normally be ended) I still dont think that will change the numbers much as to who races what series (AMA Nats and GP's)
Some interesting comments in here, written by Alex Hodginson, who is a long standing GP journalist and somene who usually writes glowing reports about YS.
==================================================
The 2011 British GP will NOT be at Matterley Basin as most fans had hoped.
The provisional MX1/MX2 GP calendar, with four overseas rounds in a 15 race schedule, runs from May 15 to October 16 with the British GP as round three on June 4/5. Planning permission has restricted the use of Matterley to the months August to October, so the Hampshire circuit is not in the frame. Where then ? Farleigh ? Foxhills ? More probably, Mallory !
Youthstream have already made it clear to ACU Events, the new GP promoter in the UK, that they prefer Mallory Park, with its existing infrastructure, though the Leicestershire track has never won the hearts on the fans. With Matterley out of the question, the alternatives are Farleigh Castle, where the landowner declined a date for this year but is open to negotiations form 2011, or Foxhills, a venue which brings a lump in the throat to Giuseppe Luongo and his crew since the debacle of Y2K.
The rest of the schedule, which is still provisional but forms a strong basis of the final version, throws up several interesting options.
As already announced the series starts in Australia at Broadford, 50 miles north of Melbourne, on the weekend of May 14/15 before returning to Europe with the Dutch GP a fortnight later; no confirmed venue yet, but Youthstream will probably carry the financial risk themselves with either Valkenswaard or Lierop as host. (What, the Dutch promoters can't raise the sanction fee either?)
After the UK round there is a weekend free before the established three week tour of northern Europe – Germany, Latvia, Sweden – and then in July it is off to Spain and Portugal for what promise to be two murderous GPs at the height of the summer heatwave on the Iberian Peninsula.
Belgium, Czech and Brazil is a repeat of this year’s schedule in August, then it's off to the States with Glen Helen on September 10/11 and another US GP one week later. Just one week affter that is the Motocross des Nations, which, having previously been announced for St Jean D'Angely in France, is now ominously slated as "to be announced" after a less than satisfactory dress rehearsal earlier this month.
The track which set new standards in paddock facilities a decade ago was left sadly wanting in other respects at the recent GP. The communications network, whichg allegedly cost the club 100,000 Euro to install, was offline more often than it was on, thus leading to a breakdown of the live link, and such catastrophic working conditions would make motocross a laughing stock in the eyes of the outside world media if repeated at the sport's most prestigious event. A potential alternative scenario would be for Glen Helen to move back a fortnight to take over the Nations with another US track taking on their GP date !
The GP series then ends in Europe in October with races in Bulgaria and Italy, the latter also "venue to be announced" as Youthstream play poker with the alternative bidders.
Current GP teams, faced with additional costs by the doubling of the overseas programme, now have until next weekend in Sweden to confirm their participation in the series.
The future of WMX hangs in the balance. Having declined to pay the inscription fee but their existence politically important to the FIM, the girls asked for more rounds to make themselves more attractive to potential sponsors.
The latter request has been granted, but an eight rounds series with three of the rounds on the same programme as MX3 is not exactly what they had in mind; it could also be a first step towards banishing WMX completely to the MX3 programme. The Vets, who willingly cough up their 500 Euro indemnity fee, are rewarded with nine rounds next year. (Three of which are fly-away - how do they think these privateer vet riders will afford these? Is it really a legitimate championship when only a three or four can afford to do all the rounds?)
With three rounds of the MX3/Euro MX2 series taking place before the opening GP, there imay even be the possibility of real GP riders from MX1/MX2 taking the opportunity to build their programme under genuine race conditions, and youngsters who show outstanding skills at the first three EMX2 races may even find themselves drafted into a GP team.
Watch this space for more !
2 US races (I´ll be going!)
More continents involved
cons:
Late start to the season
2 races AFTER the MXDNs
Same old Euro tracks (I hate Bellpuig and St Jean DÁngely)
LOTS of expensive travelling
Broadford is a boring track
Why the FUCK do the GP´s adjust to the US SX series anyway? Do they actualy admitt to being inferior?
