Either there is something wrong or everybody picked it up this year but I am sure the excuses are going to start in 3...2...1....

Pourcel never really killed it at southwick either, maybe he's just not a sand guy.

get him on a tricky, slick surface and i'm sure we'll see a different rider.

Bulgaria will be a true representation of his speed, if he can't break top five on the slick hillside of Sevlievo then he's in trouble.

I don't see him contending for the championship with the likes of Cairoli! Yes, he's beaten Cairoli before, but that was through consistency and he seems to have lost that now...

Agreed, anyone who thinks he's going to contend for the title is kidding themselves

The funny thing is, before he went to the USA. He wasn't a weird, hot one week, cold the other kinda guy. Is it really the AMA series that done it too him? Also, today's problems can't be because of the sand, as in his title winning year he beat Rattray (very, very quick in the sand) and Cairoli (won today) for the overall at Leirop (a much deeper sand track), so that's not a problem.

Weird.

Maybe losing those two outdoor titles the way he did affected his motivation?

I think he feels he's able get by on natural talent alone and maybe not put in the hard graft, which might be the case on certain tracks but certainly not on others. His crash aside he was different class at Matterly Basin last year.

pourcel will win races this year, i was actually quite impressed with him in moto 2 today- the track was very tough, difficult gp to come back to after so long away from racing at the top level. I expect him to be top 3-5 at the next gp, and start winning very soon! Paulin had a bad day at the office too- but you would be a fool to count either of them out of the championship, its only the first round- lots more racing to go yet!

Cairoli's sand skills have improved a great deal since 2006, but i agree that the sand isn't a huge weakness for CP!

It's a shitty situation for CP because he has just totally lost his consistency and which won him the 2006 world title - Cairoli was alot faster that year, but a couple of mechanicals and a number of crashes ensured Pourcel would win the title! CP won 4 moto's that year, whereas Cairoli won 12.

Between 2005-2007 CP won just 9 moto's, whereas Cairoli won 46, but CP was always there all there abouts because of that consistency and Cairoli's mistakes!

I hope CP comes out swinging in Bulgaria!

Paulin crashed on the start of Moto 2 and CP holeshoted Moto 2. Paulin got 7th and CP 9th.

Long time away from Racing? He won motos last year in GP!!

Get your fact straight, CP is a great rider but his performance yesterday was horrible and there is no excuse to it, even being sick.

he also raced only 1 pre season round with no big names, while all other riders where riding international races everywhere and batteling eachother. So he got no race rythem and pace. Lets hope that it is a bad and off weekend for pourcel and struggle with a flu. He really looking lost and empty inside the first moto. second one was a lil better. i hope he will bounce back next round.

Just crappy fitness !
Like last year...
And already in 2010 it began...
Why?... no certainty...

But the next races will be on hard soil and Pourcel (at the favour of his crazy talent) will be on front.

AC and herling very impressive in the sand. Glad to hear next few rounds are hard pack, the rest seemed out of their element on sand.

fair enough- pourcel was winning at the end of last season- but thats months ago! he's not done any of the big pre season internationals that most of the other top riders use to warm up. He was terrible in the first moto- but rode alot better in the 2nd one (he was running 5th/ 6th for most of the race) . I think he will be fine once he gets his race fitness back,

Paulin was very unlucky, he looked good in the first moto and pulled through well in the 2nd moto- i expect them both to get better results at the next round

Indeed it looked like he was uncomfortable even a bit scared at that big dragon back where Cairoli, Desalle and others where tripling because CP377 was also landing it perfectly for tripling the jump and he never did it in stead he started riding safe lines on that jump!

Why is there always some bullshit excuse with this clown ? Rear shocks, bike is not right, he doesn't feel good, the shits.....The guy just appears to be lazy simple as that. Naturally as the season progresses and he is racing more he will get in better shape. I just think he has always relied on his god given talent and that just isn't enough anymore. I loved watching the guy ride but IMO he likes to watch TV.

I think it was very telling when AC wouldn't list CP as anyone that can compete for the title in 2012 on the podcast we did.
