I recently moved to Chattanooga and met some guy from the local message board at Hooters. I happened to be wearing my Rupert X shirt. They knew right away I was serious about MOTO. Rup! the man the myth the legend!
I never expected to get blackballed / black listed that &*^% QUICK !
First they took the 40 minute moto's. then the works bikes, then the 500's, then the race-gas, then the two-strokes, then the Saturday qualifier RACES for the local pro's - then the Sunday morning RACES - then the SUNDAYS.
Great news though folks - we got LOTS more womens races !!! Yaaaaaay !!!!
We'll sit on our hands and our asses until we get THIS upcoming " press - release":
" To better fit into TV programming, we will be featuring one twenty minute moto (timed)- this will be taped on a Tuesday afternoon. We'll tell you the winner, of course. We'll add some more womens moto's - maybe some quads, too !"
I can see the writing on the wall, can you ?
Yet we, the fans, will just let it happen. Won't we ?

All the other stuff... is a pipe dream. It is what it is, none of the sat. stuff went down without severe bitching before it happened. The money talked (OEM's) and you (we) get what you get.
I seriously doubt we'll see a one moto format. It seems things are going well with the TV deal right now.

No women issues other than I'd like to see Ashley or JP$ or Whitmore or some other

And, I'd feel the same way if they decided to run the vets Open bike race with the main
program, SUNDAY should be four motos of the world's best - NOTHING MORE.
Currently women make up - what - maybe 2 % of the total motocross population ?-
Does this warrant a showcase of 20 pro women riders on National day ?

and insert a women's program?

HUGE FAN of both of those guys and somehow their names spilled out of my mouth before my brain caught up.
Speaking about riders needing to "harden up" - those two don't and are tougher than I'll ever be. Sorry,
especially to Mrs. Dungey, she's always been SO cool to me. It was a big slip-up. And I didn't mean to pick
on Mitch Payton, either - it just always seems like in any explanation of why we have these Saturday races,
it's because "Mitch Payton needs to get back to work and Kevin Windham needs to be with his family".
Allegedly, THEY want a shorter weekend. Seriously, WHO - in their right mind - wants a shorter weekend?
Just Gonser - he works at a bike shop on weekends...
Mount Morris was fun and will always be fun - could it be better? Hell yeah, and I'm not b***ing solely
about recent changes and developments, the erosion of the "spice and fury" of motocross started many years
back, when WE (me included) permitted changes to be made, behind closed doors - that have negatively
affected our sport. Think about the things that have been taken away, that also removed a large throng of
fans, with every piece taken: 40 plus moto's, works bikes, cool-smelling fuels, two-smokes and better
racing, Saturday afternoon qualifiers (RACES!!), Sunday morning qualifiers (RACES!!!) amd LONG WEEKENDS
of motocross NIRVANA. It's time for us to return many of these staples that made motocross the colorful,
wonderful sport that it used to be. And the fans shall return. In droves.
And, of course, MOUNT MORRIS should be on Memorial Day. Sunday.
And, we should have a RACER-X party on Friday night, like olden days...sniff,sniff...

*** As far as removing the womens racing from the main program, even though most
don't watch it and don't believe it should be hanging on the coattails of the main PROgram, most are afraid to speak up, realizing that they'll be labeled "sexist' or "anti-woman" . If people cannot logically oppose your message through civil dialogue and realize you're correct, they'll most likely attack your credibility or resort to name -calling.
Phil just left my house but I didn't see this post until right now. I will see if I can get him to e mail me the letter he and Eierstedt sent to CN.
BTW, if the Nationals ever go to one moto this will be when I stop going the outdoor races......
The title that accompanied this was "Outraged in Oceanside"
My roommate and I just returned from the opening round of the 2009 Outdoor National MX series at Glen Helen. And while the racing in the 250/450 classes was great, we felt compelled to express our views regarding the WMA part of the program.
We've both been MX enthusiasts since the sport was introduced here in the U.S. in the late 1960's. I've raced amateur MX on and off since 1971 and even had my own race team from 1992 through 2004. My roommate started racing in the early seventies as well and had a professional MX license for ten years. We've been into it for a long time. You might even consider us "super fans".
Anyway, we knew that in conjunction with the 250/450 classes, a Women's race and a two-stroke challenge were going to be included as well. We both feel that the Women's race took away from the 250/450 classes immensely. With the WMA race running first, combined with the long practices, parade laps and podium interviews , the 250/450 classes seemed as though they took a back seat to the Women's program. I mean, at 5:00 pm, the Women had completed their program and the second 250/450 moto's hadn't even started!
Please don't take this as a slam towards the WMA. We both feel that there's a place for Women in MX, just not HIGHLIGHTED during a 250/450 Outdoor National. All told, I think we lost about two hours of the best part of the day watching the women ride around the track and listening to them talk. Plus, it's hard to have a lot of respect for a group of racer's that don't even have enough respect for themselves to even fill up the gate. I'm pretty sure that only 27 riders even bothered to enter!
I don't think we're alone either. There's a time and place for everything. And the time and place for Women's MX isn't in conjunction with a 250/450 professional motocross!

It's never been proven unless you give the 4 strokes a significant cc advantage.
I've seen the vid and agree with you on most parts . At the GP's their are selected events with a womens class but it doesn't bother the time schedule of the MX1 and MX2 classes at all. 1st moto is in the morning and second moto is held where there's usually a 1 hour pauze between the 1st and 2nd moto so it's cool with most race fans I think.
I disagree with you on the timed qualifiers. The've been part of the GP's forever, we're used to it and know how they work. I can appreciate it alot. You get to see GP stars do a super fast, balls out, all or nothing lap trying to take that pole.
Example: I've seen de Dijcker and de Reuver blast full throttle, barely hanging on, through sand berms you normally won't see in a race. Some of the stuff these guys are trying and doing in a fast lap are just great to watch.
