Maybe I should know this, but has any rider on a 250f or 125 ever won a moto beating out all the larger bikes? If not who has gotten the closest to doing so? Maybe this has happened a few times, but I'm just not aware.

Ha, see I should of known about RV. I didn't get back into MX until around 2011. Still should've known though.
2007. RV put a whoopin' on everyone both motos on a 250F. This included the likes of Carmichael, Cairoli, Nagel, Ramon, Searle, Reed. Made quite a statement, I recall.
Roczen has been the most recent in 2013.
In fact, Roczen and Tomac were 1 & 2 both on 250s... with a 50 second lead over 3rd.
Villo was great but beating 450fs on a 250f is not in the same league as beating 500's on a 125.
1986 in the 125/500 moto Johnny O'Mara came out of the first turn around 9th place with numerous world champions in front of him... Jobe, Thorpe, Carlquist, Van Der Ven.. all on 500's. The only person he didn't pass was David Bailey. Track had some monster hills too. One of the greatest rides ever.
Roczen and Tomac 2013.
They were 1st and 2nd in the MX2-OPEN race on their 250's ahead of Desalle.
Ken is the last guy who won an MXON race on a 250.

True. An amazing performance on a little two strokes 125cc bike...

That wasn't a race , a race would involve more than one person! Lol
