What do you guys think?
Is Herlings the only guy who can individualy compete with USA (f**k yeah wooooooow)

Cairoli is pretty good in the sand but he has a bad record in MXdN. Mabe if he was dialed on a 450. He must be missing some power on a deep sand track

People will boost their favorites here; that'll dominate the conversation.

I just hope none of the best riders or teams get dinged with some crazy thing like Pourcel's mousse last year or Cairolli' second moto start in 09.

Prob right, but people need to use some common sense also. Im not too updated in mxgp so to quote Brad Pitt in Troy. " Is there no one else? IS THERE NO ONE ELSE?

I think Belgium has a chance against the US. 3 great riders, home track, special sand track, ... And if I remembered correctly, Cairoli ran a 450 engine last year in Lommel (or the year before that), so I wouldn't be suprised if he did it again

In fairness, people have been hashing this out for months already, even since Lommel was designated a site to introduce deep sand as a feature the US supposedly will flounder in.

If Roczen and Marv had dominated in Southwick, I would have thought US was in for a struggle. Not so much anymore.

But Beglium do have a very strong team, so if the stars align.

How does the racing work? It says 450's against 250's, then 250's against 450's, and then 450's against 450's. Does everyone race everyone in every race? I don't understand the format. Can some one explain please?

Each rider ends up having raced everyone else atfer both his motos have run, but only two classes race at a time. Off the top of my head it runs: first moto MX1/MX2; second moto MX2/MX3; third moto MX1/MX3. The confusion comes up because MX3 theoretically is a different class from the MX1 450s, but almost always is just a second 450 class.

The Americans may not beat Herlings and maybe not even Cairoli....but no other team has three riders as solid as Team USA does.

Baring disaster for USA (DNF's, injuries) USA will win the title..again. They may not win every moto (they seldom do), but without any disasters, they'll win the title.

Has Herlings raced AC straight up in a sand track? I can't recall Herlings beating AC in the sand. I honestly think that Herlings might be in for a humbling experience with some big dogs in the same race.

Yeah I starting bringing up AC this week. With all the Herlings talk, we are forgetting AC is a force at Lommel. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if he romped. And yes, I would love for him to wax Herlings and sent him a message. Waiting for you when you move up big boy

I'm not sure what's left to explain, but I'll try subject to other folks correcting me.

The are three motos. There are three classes - MX1, MX2, MX3 - each races two motos. Each team has one rider in each class. The order of motos is MX1/MX2, MX2/MX3, and MX1/MX3 for the final moto.

MX1 is the current max 175-250cc-2t/290-450cc-4t displacement class

Mx2 is the current max 100-125cc-2t/175-250cc-4t displacement class, subject to the FIM's 23 years-old age limit.

MX3 is the "open" class; max 175-500cc-2t/290-650cc-4t. As a practical matter it ends up being a 450 most of the time.

Riders are scored by their moto finish, not by their class finish (i.e., if the first MX2 rider finishes 5th in the combined MX1/MX2 moto, he's given a 5 score, not 1 for being first MX2 rider).

The team that wins the event has the lowest combined score from five finishes after three motos. Teams are allowed to toss one bad finish.

IMO winning team pretty much needs to have four top ten moto finishes with at least a top 20 backing those to have a chance unless things get really freaky.

Track does not matter. People who know nothing about the history of the sport will not remember that the very first MXdN the US won in '81 was at Lommel. Actually, back in those days there were two separate events, the Trophee des Nations for 250s, and a week later the Motocross des Nations for the 500s which was at a different track in West Germany. The point here is, the US won both, the Trophee des Nations was at Lommel in '81 and NONE of the US riders were sand specialists, they were all SoCal kids who grew up racing hard pack. The track will NOT matter, at the level these guys are at, its talent, speed and who has the least bad luck.

Individual riders like Cairoli and Herlings can win motos but barring crashes or DNFs, the US team will be hard to beat. They are not unbeatable by any means, but they are strong.

AS the UNOFFICIAL TEAM USA Captain, I shall be at Lommel, leading a raucous band of American fans.

I personally guarantee an overall victory by the Americans. France second. Netherlands Third.

I also guarantee the best story and pics from this prestigious event.

I shall be a fairly decent ambassador for my country.

I would not be so bold as to guarantee anything, all it takes is a first turn crash to end any countries des Nations and the Euros are good too, no disrespect to them at all.

Disagree sir, as the (UNOFFICIAL) Team Captain, if I show anything BUT 100% commitment, determination and confidence,

Ryan, Justin and BB ( that's what I call him), will lose faith in themselves and eat sand hamwiches. I MUST be a leader and

provide the backbone and trust for this red, white and blue assault on the SANDS OF LOMMEL.

I've been there before, you know. And I won't come back 'til it;'s over, over there.

Not Cairoli, but he easily beat a few guys in the Belgian nationals last year, including Desalle, who challenged AC a fair bit a Lommel last year.

Let's talk "Spoilers"...shall we?

Desalle seems to be Waaaay UNDER-Rated. Roczen seems to come to Life when he goes "Home" to race. The Happy Portagee seems REALLY "Stoked" this year...then there's that English kid on the little bike...so, spoilers, anyone?

Southwick is hard packed compare to lommel. Herling and AC will win motos, AC will want to show top results and claim one of the fastest mx rider in the world. Belgium , france and germany will have a shoot on beating the americans. I hope for better luck this year, no tire blowing up again.

I dont even look at it as a team event. It is the only chanse to see the best duke it out. Everything else is just speculation and bullshit.

I cant stress enough how important it is to us European race fans that USA attend to the Des nations. Say what you want but they are usually big names in the sport. People would go insane if JS would be on the team.

I hope for 3 things.

1. close racing. No 30 second moto wins for RD, BB or anyone

2. JH needs to get beat, that would do him good. Preferably by someone in his own class. Only himself, BB, KR and maybe Marv are able to do that. In that order.

3. AC to finnish ONE GOD DAMN RACE!
