If you watch the video below while Marvin is doing his lap , there is one corner at 1:33 , looks sketchy. And it heads right down into a little canyon with an abrupt wall , if someone makes a mistake there. Someone blows that corner or gets hit from the inside....toast! The track looks awesome , but watching that specific part of the track , looks like bad news waiting to happen. Any ideas on what might have to be done to keep the riders out of there?

As soon as he came around that sweeper, my first thought was "someone's going into that little gully."
It also looks like they're running it backwards to last year. I could have sworn the big uphill started on the right and went into a left hand turn, then came back down.

Same clockwise direction as far as I can tell.

It's the same direction. I'm so excited to attend this year..Hopefully it stays dry and prime. I was there for the insane mudfest last year, and it was near impossible to spectate at certain spots with people slipping and falling left and right. Talk about total chaos! At one point the porta johns were unusable due to the mud and craziness, so everyone opted to take their business out into the cornfield around the back section of the track. There were people taking leaks and hollering for rows and rows Grinning Silly I hope this track stays in the series for many years to come.

All I was focused on was that MASSIVE first jump at 0:50... I do not see how these guys do it. I'd hate to see what a mistake on that uphill would look like..

Well I'm glad I didn't sound to crazy for bring that corner up in a discussion. I know it's a lot different in real life than it is with a helmet cam , but for some reason that corner made me go " What the hell? "

And the dirt there just looks awesome! I hope the weather stays good there , because I think it could be an awesome race weekend for you guys that get to go!

I see what you mean, just like riding on the banked part of a cereal bowl... You get bumped over the edge or come
in too hot, you'd be the "spilled milk" right over the bank and they're trees...

This is a stopped snap shot, right at 1:33...

Like the track though.

I thought the same thing about that corner. Hopefully they'll have a rut dug pretty deep there where everyone is hitting it in practice

I will for sure. My slow ass would just roll right off the corner and I'd have to bust out some ISDE and get right back on the track. Those guys , at the speeds they carry , just pretty dangerous. I'm sure they'll have something figured out , just hadn't ever seen that corner before.

I don't want to see any riders take unreasonable risks, and there is no way you would see me railing that outside line on the edge near a drop like that. At the same time I expect pros to have better judgement then me. If a fast line develops there and the risk versus reward makes sense to them, I don't see the problem with it as is. From a racing perspective I like the tracks to challenge riders or separates them. The consequences will hopefully prevent anyone from going balls out into the outside which might make the turn interesting.

Jeffro, we will have hay bales up on top on the outside, as always, but I am not sure what you think is so sketchy. That's not really a drop-off and they hit it straight, so I am nut sure what the problem is, but I will look at it again this morning when the amateurs are out there...

Jeffro, there is an event called "Erzberg", I suggest you never watch it.

But the point of that race is to not finish it, at least thats what crazy Karl tries to attempt every year.

No other sport has a promoter come on a public forum and openly discusses issues. DC you are the man and we're glad to have you. Thanks for all you've done this season!

I was there last year too, slogging around in the mud, and even in those conditions you could still tell - this track is going to become legendary. Everyone who thinks their track should hold a national should come and see the place, if only to understand why their track probably wouldn't measure up. The hills are........ intoxicating.

Hey DC, myself,I'd rather have the orange or yellow plastic stakes there than haybales.

If you are headed off id rather be in control somewhat rather than rolling over bales, getting really squirrely and then the drop off.

Had some bad crashes just from the bales before and if they had not been there I'd just rolled out and gotten back on track.

Later man,have a good show.

I think it's a really good track in general. On camera that corner does look pretty sketchy, but it always looks different in person. DC knows what he's talking about, so if he says it's not really an issue then that's good enough for me

Yep. Looks bad on camera but if he's ok with running it as is than its his call and I trust him.

The quads were jumping everything there on the race I saw on mavtv. That blind huck up the hill would be brutal if shorted.

What I thought was sketchy was the holeshot structure 2/3 of the way down the start. There is a rise about half way down with a slight kink to the right. Hope 40 guys going wide open through that section make it safely past that structure without tagging it!

Ow
Musquin better get a gap on Webb before they get to that corner

I rode Ironman last year at the LL regional the first time it was ever open and that section of the track is very, very weird. Its like you go down in the gully and for some reason I remember like G forces approaching the corner your talking about cuz you drop down so quick. I actually snagged the crap out of my left knee there and she popped. (Prolly shouldnt drag my foot). That helmet cam doesn't do that place justice AT ALL. The step up after this corner we are referring to is pretty awesome. Such an awesome track with sick jumps. Everyone complained after the regional how sketchy they thought it was and I loved it.. Too bad my dream was cut short when I broke my collarbone (for the 5th time) at the end of Friday practice landing weird after getting cut off by a guy on that inside single at 2:14ish in your video...Oh well. I'm with you, if the weather's good, the racing will be sweet. Loved that track.
