Would GP riders running the entire series and perhaps coming into the last round with a title at stake really want a lot of one-event talent elbowing in on that? How realistic is it to inject a lot of high end US riders at that point?
I wonder if the US round isn't better run to kick the series off (hint, hint: Northern California is spectacular in April.

Thoughts?

If I remember correctly, the way it works at GP's is that there's a set field that races the entire series and the host country of that GP (USA in this instance) can insert like 3 or 4 riders into the program to attempt to qualify.
Every US rider will not be allowed to qualify and potentially bump the entire GP field from their own series.
The number is limited
They need to open up the entry to anyone and let the fastest 35 guys from practice race in the main. If that means half of them are American or American based riders not riding the whole series than so be it. I guess they truely are afraid that there riders aren't fast enough??

Back in the day when there were 500 and 250 gps here, they were at different venues and different dates, and US riders not doing the whole series had to elect one or the other, not ride both. Some guys would run support at one race and the gp at the other. Some would ride just one of the gps. Some would not do any at all.
Not that this drove the question, but Motodude continued his whack conspiracy theory nonsense over at Racetime asserting that no marquee US riders will participate because MX Sports will put the screws to them. I wonder whether guys can and will participate in much depth period. There doesn't seem to be any financial incentive for a one-off ride, and I don't think you could treat them differently financially from the gp regulars. US guys, other than maybe the three headed to the MXdN, are going to be into the off season and transitioning to SX testing and looking to the Vegas race. And you;d have to think including any top US talent would really throw a curve ball at the gp regulars in a points chase.
I think it's awesome the have the GP's coming back to the US, but I wonder whether its realistic or desireable to consider it some kind of showcase for US vs. GP talent.
and yes, racers race
The first round had a three way battle on the last lap! The tracks are cool and the racing is way more interesting than watching Stewart running practice laps out front. I just don't get racers saying these guys are slow...it's ridiculous.
I would bet that riders that are working on a contract renewal or a new ride for the following season would jump at the chance. Not much downside. If they hit the podium they look like heroes. If they do poorly, there are probably a number of excuses to choose from.
Sorry FTE, that is off topic again.
If the GP's came here and only allowed a couple of American's to race I wouldn't spend my money to attend unless it was in my backyard and still I would rather watch the B class at LL.
after looking at that support class field I'd say it even kicks ass on the main class today...wouldn't you?
