Hmm...the U.S. Open (at least as we know it, in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, two night format, etc.) is done.

The guys at Feld Motorsports were working on a replacement race, and were supposed to have a press conference in Las Vegas today to announce an entirely new event, a new sponsor, a new (but familiar) venue, a new one-day format, and the same $100,000 to win. But things have gone kind of quiet...

The US Open is down the crapper.

I thought that news would be good for a decent sized thread closer to the top...

They must be trying to free up dates for more USGP's.

rumor said it was supposed to move to the SB? 1 night, metal ramps? I hate to drive over there but it could be a cool event.

Bring that Race to Atlanta. We pack the dome with 60K + fans every Feb for the normal Supercross race. I am sure we could do the same for this event!

There's absolutely no appeal to a random one-off SX at Sam Boyd.

The MGM is what made the US Open. If no one is into it anymore, let it die, or find a more glamorous venue.

Too many of us cheap asses not gambling on the race so the MGM is not ponying up the dough.
Pure speculation and not based on factual information.

No title sponsor, as of yet, is what's in "the Mill"...

Goin' outside in October?

So be it.

Agreed

The idea of walking out of the race, into a casino, restaurant or your hotel room is what made it appealing.

Does the Endurocross/MiniMoto folks have an exclusivity on the Orleans?

I would not go to LV for a one off race all the way out at SB, not gonna happen

Making it like MCs race is the only shot they will have at making SB work.

reed posted some about it on twitter a few weeks ago saying "count him out" and matthes replied back saying i guess you got the news about the open. maybe the riders dont care to much for it? may be a great chance for a privateer to grab some cash for the upcoming sx season.....

Does it clash with the Super X series in Oz? Perhaps enough of the top riders are doing Super X to not make the US Open viable?

The US Open being moved wasn't what Matthes was talking about. More news has just come down from FELD. First the US Open had been moved from the MGM to a new location and now a bigger bomb shell. Sorry to tease, but I'm not the one to say. Everyone will know soon enough.

So the forthcoming news is better than what was supposed to be announced today?

Everyone seems to think there aren't other good venues in Vegas?

Good, the US Open was a cheesy Arenacross anyways. Wish they would put that kind of prize money up at the opening round of the real Supercross series or maybe Daytona or some deserving venue.
