While I was in Japan a few weeks back, I had the chance to spend quite a bit of time with Ricky Carmichael as we were traveling together for about a week. Part way through the trip, we had the chance to sit down and knock out a decent sized interview (just a bit over 20 mins long once edited). I don't usually do interviews quite this big, but I had a lot of questions I wanted answered. I was curious what you all think and if you'd like to see interviews of this size in the future.

That was a great interview.

Whatever happened to his "man friend"? I think he was a fox rep or something like that? Seemed like he was always always with RC...

One of RCs better interviews. Candid and interesting. Well done!

Great job, The GOAT is too humble...stating stuff like "Windham and Stewart have more skill than I ever will" shows his great character, but I personally don't agree with him. It takes skill to keep the rubber side down, and this is something no one else could do for as long as the GOAT did while riding at stupid fast speeds...

I think he just increased the values of the 05/06 RM250 Smile

I do quite a few interviews when I'm not too busy with product testing, but this one almost counts as a podcast as long as it is, ha!

Interesting and informative...not the ordinary, run of the mill questions and answers that we're used to hearing. Unfortunately my underpowered computer speakers are competing against an AC cranked up, and traffic noise, as well as my less-than-perfect hearing, so I will listen again when I can eliminate some background noise. More of these would be welcome IMO.

Sound ok (It was the best edit I could find lol) keep in mind studio headphones retain a more neutral sound with less coloration of the sound, price is cheap (between $150 and $200) but maybe you need a Headphone Amplifier + $100

That was a good one, Michael.
After listening, I'm curious about RC's role with the team: Did he buy a stake in the team, or does the team pay him?

Race teams (ideally) pay salaries for the riders and staff, but they aren't known as dividend-paying or equity-building assets for the owners.

I'm guessing your thinking of JH? He's still with him and I don't think he's a man friend. when I was down there he was scheduling all his appointments. Idk what his job title would be.

Good job Michael. I learned some new stuff there.

Would have liked more from RC on his race car career. Was he dissapointed? Did he have high expectations? Frustrations? Was it scarier racing cars vs dirtbikes or visaversa?

Great interview. Would have been neat to ask some questions about the kawi days, the first few years of sx.

Yeah, maybe Ricky is "too humble", but he never said the reason he won was skills and talent...it was his work ethic, his determination & his sheer will to win, that set him apart from other racers. He just flat ass refused to lose, because it effected him so violently to do so. Stewart & Windham could lose a race, and they'd just toss it off to "the best guy won today", but it pissed Ricky off so bad to lose that he couldn't accept it...and immediately went back to work seeing how he could elevate his game to not let that happen again. That has always been an issue of respect for me about RC, even more than his many championships.

I very seldom sit at a computer and listen to audio/video interviews, i'd rather read them since reading is faster then listening. If you could provide it as a downloadable mp3 so i can listen to it while driving (like a do with pulpmx/dmxs) that'd be fantastic.

Other than that, i just find the audio interviews that often end up on vital are just a lazy way to get out of typing them, obviously ones this long that land in podcast territory are the exception, i just cant download it and listen to it with all my other podcasts!

Nice interview. Thanks for that, Michael.
