CR250 Frame

I have an 04 CR250 and need a frame with a pink slip. Now here's the story. Bought the bike from an aquantince that knows nothing about bikes. He bought it from a guy a couple weeks before. We were under the impression he had the pink slip because he told us he did. Well come to find out he only had a bill of sale. The guy he bought it from only had a bill of sale as well. Apparently the bike has changed hands with just a bill of sale quite a few times. We tried registering the bike but in order to do that we need to go all the way back to the original owner to get a bill of sale from him. Well, DMV and AAA wouldn't give us any of that info so we are basically screwed. We talked to the aquantince we bought the bike from and at first was cool with buying it back from us but now won't return our texts or calls. So we are looking for a 2004 CR250 frame with a pink slip. I've looked on eBay and can only find one with a bill of sale which puts us in the same situation. Nothing on Craigslist either. Anyone have one for sale or can you direct me in the right direction? I'm in Southern California. Thanks vitards!!

My buddy bought a brand new frame from Service Honda he got a good deal on it and it had no serial numbers on it...

I'd part it out and find a newer CRF roller for the engine, worst case you have to find a right side or left side case.

Kinda sketchy at this point. Even if you bought a new frame with a title its still technically the same bike with the same unknown past. Let's say for example IF the bike was stolen 4 owners ago, a new frame wouldn't change that fact.... and may even implicate the person who tried to change the bikes identity. Just thinking out loud.

I agree. My dads friend bought a Harley. He had to go to CHP to get vin verified. Came back engine was stolen. Reason he had to take it too CHP was b/c engine number did not match the pink slip. CHP too the engine out and gave him back rest of the bike.

It's never been reported stolen if DMV told him to get a bill of sale. But, it's a waste of time trying to hunt someone down. I have a 1990 Husky 510 that I bought in 94 and never transferred into my name, I have the pink slip. I decided a few months ago to put it back together with late model bodywork I bought a few years ago. I was at the DMV for car reg so I inquired about registering it. They told me I needed to pay the tax and 6 years of back fees so I did it. I paid them, they gave me the green sticker and I left. A month later I get the pink slip back in the mail(my only claim to the bike was put in an envelope) with a bill for another $400 and that I needed a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from with all his current info. And of course they won't refund my money or tell me anything about how to find the guy.

I think it is amazing all this pink slip stuff coming from Australia! a few weeks back I sold my 2015 YZ450f over Facebook, the fella came around with cash we had a beer helped him load it and off he went.

Done it with all my old bikes!

So here is my delima. I bought a Cr125 with a chicken scratch bill of sale...... and realized after the fact it's completly worthless. Cant read the Vin # or the guys name.

I have a 2003 Cr250 with a title and was thinking about changing the Vin on my 125 to match the CR250. If it was ever stolen, I could try to use cr250 title to recover it.

What say you?

To buy a frame from Honda you have to have a title to the frame you have and they transfer the numbers to the new one. There is (or was) a form that had to be filled out and sent to Honda unless it has changed since I worked at a Honda dealer.

Any motorcycle or car dealership can log into dmv and see who a vin is registered too. Everyone has a friend who is s car or motorcycle sales man. Find out who's name is on title, fill out a bill of sale with their name/address and then yours, sign it and go to aaa, you'll have a new title in two weeks. It's fraud but you ain't doing time over an 04 cr250 worth a couple grand.
