81 YZ465 been in storage since it was flipped shortly after birth. Too bad it is extremely humid here or this one would be damn near perfect. Maybe has a few hours ride time on it total. Original tires, even has the kickstand!! Levers are missing, chain is rusty, came with the enduro pouch on the crossbar. Cost me about as much as a top end rebuild costs all those fools with modern 4 bangers. Pictures suck, but the bike is pretty sweet.

That is how you got it? That sucker is beautiful. Too bad its only worth $200. I will give you $225 for it, and save you the time of having to deal with it.

Hey Joe, that's exactly what I've been looking for to race with the TVRC guys next year.

The GPIII class. 1981 was the year for me so I'd like to find either a YZ250 or 465. I'd love to race a 125H but I'm about 65lbs too heavy for that class nowadays.

The 81 YZ250 and 465 are GP2 / Evo2 class bikes . Drum brakes/ air cooled /no linkage. Will definitely have to "debug" this bike before firing it off.

Oh that is awesome. I would rather find that in a barn and get it for $200 than win the lottery!

Pretty awesome shape if that thing just rolled out. Why would somebody have a bike for almost 30 years and not ride it?

I think there are a lot of open class bikes out there that spent their entire lives in the garage.

You may be right. I helped a friend get a Yamaha IT490 running for his brother in law- it had obviously been sitting a long, long time. There was not even the slightest paint wear on the frame or engine cases.....funny thing is that the rear fender was gone and the subframe was all bent up. Someone had obviously looped it hard and stuffed it in storage , never to be messed with again

absolutely AWESOME.... while it might not have been one of the best bikes of all time, it certainly is a legendary machine...... more people have accidentally chit their britches on that bike than any other..... simply a beast.....

I would love to have that or a RM465 around just for "play time". I was wandering the field at my dads and found my old 76 yz125 laying there, I am bringing it home to see if it salvagable.

My dad had a bike just like that one when I was a little mini racer

Lee, we will never find a bike like that here in WI. Everyone here rides them summer, winter snow rain. Leaves them out in the snow rain sun. Then spray paints them black for the darth vader look. Rides them some more until they last breath is out of them.

Those old open bikes were so pipey that they could spit a beginer off on their head in a second. Hopefully your friends bother in law doesn't get spit off on his head.

Amazing. That's as close to a jackpot you get. One might wonder how someone could ignore something as beautiful for so long?

I had a friend that was given a new RM80 from 1980. He had it in his room but newer rode it while I had a crappy bike I rode all time! I didn't know how deal with that.

Congrats!

The memories. 12 years old, two friends holding it up.. and me kicking it to life.

One of our friends older brothers had one... said we could ride it if we could start it. He didn't think we could.

We all took turns riding that thing all day.

I am amazed that you could get it started.
