32:1 (4 oz to a gallon of fuel) is a good starting point.

Except the oil takes the place of gas, so all other things being equal, the more oil, the leaner the mixture, the more chances of seizing.
So basically, re-jet when you change the fuel/oil ratio.
Wait, I just read the end of your post. You basically said the same thing.
DV,
As long as the Carb is jetted correctly (key wording here "jetted correctly") to accept this ratio it would be fine and of course some Race Gas would not hurt either!
Looking at the bike in the photo with a stock pipe on it, my guess there is not a lot of motor work done so a base mixture of 32:1 should be fine with stock jetting(?). Some race fuel ( VP C12 or equivalent) would be good too.
Good luck!

Chain saws run forever on this stuff. Even doubles your warranty when you use it. Ever see a broken down Stihl?? 50 :1 and properly jet the puppy.
Bigger question for the 2 stroke crowd, when you rebuild a top end with fresh bore or plating do you slather everything up with oil for assembly or put it together dry?
Anyone else?
