.

32:1 (4 oz to a gallon of fuel) is a good starting point.

Bingo. That's what I do on my YZ250. 32:1 is too much unless you ride it like Barcia... ;-)

I run 32:1 on my son's YZ250 and my CR500AF. A little extra oil never hurt anything, maybe you get a bit of extra spooge from the pipe or etc...

Oil takes away octane from the gas. So in theorie, more oil, less octane, more detonation... I used to run 75:1 on YZ125 in SX only in the late 90s.

I think we're missing the message here. Lol. Do you think he really needs to get everyone's opinion on his premix ratio?

Good luck at Daytona!!!!!

Most people don't realize that when you're talking about 2-stroke mixtures and being lean or rich, it's the fuel and air that affects that......not so much the oil. The oil is there as a lubricant and doesn't really affect the mixture. Like you said, the more oil you add the less fuel you'll have by volume which will make it leaner because the air amount will be greater in regards to the fuel.

we been running 80:1 and sometimes 100:1 on snowmobile motors (2strokes) consistently. when suggested is somewhere down around 40:1 area. either oil has come a long ways or those ratios were just overkill to protect for failures. Smile

Good luck to you guys! If he's racing with the big boys I hope to see that sucker on TV Saturday night, if he's doing the amateur race I hope he makes all those guys that spent too much on 4-jokes look like fools!

The oil is there as a lubricant and doesn't really affect the mixture.

Except the oil takes the place of gas, so all other things being equal, the more oil, the leaner the mixture, the more chances of seizing.
So basically, re-jet when you change the fuel/oil ratio.

Wait, I just read the end of your post. You basically said the same thing.

DV,
As long as the Carb is jetted correctly (key wording here "jetted correctly") to accept this ratio it would be fine and of course some Race Gas would not hurt either!

Looking at the bike in the photo with a stock pipe on it, my guess there is not a lot of motor work done so a base mixture of 32:1 should be fine with stock jetting(?). Some race fuel ( VP C12 or equivalent) would be good too.

Good luck!

Chain saws run forever on this stuff. Even doubles your warranty when you use it. Ever see a broken down Stihl??Wink 50 :1 and properly jet the puppy.

Bigger question for the 2 stroke crowd, when you rebuild a top end with fresh bore or plating do you slather everything up with oil for assembly or put it together dry?

I've done both, never noticed a difference in either method.

Anyone else?
