Do you guys think that Mike Alessi's switch back to the 450sxf instead of the 350sxf is going to help change his results any?

It'll make him better. Problem is so is the competition this year. Him and Josh Grant are so much alike. I don't see either one winning a championship, but on any given moto they can flat out fly and win big. I think Alessi gets a moto win or two this year.

I really think the 350 is competitive but then I don't have to line up at Hangtown so whatever makes him happy should be good . Hope he's still getting the attention he deserves from KTM and they keep developing the 450 too. Just looking forward to seeing Mike bang some holies and run up front this season!

I'm HOPING he'll be battling for a top 3 finish every race. My gut says it'll be top 5 all season (still good in this field) with a few battles for the top spot.

whatever the case...if alessi starts winning moto's early, watch out cause only injury will stop him from the title imo. when he gets on a roll he starts racing like his amateur days and just gets stronger every week. these first couple races are very important to team alessi if you ask me.

SHoot I'm not even a MA800 fan. But When I saw he was on the 450, I picked him for my motoxdream team

It will make him much faster, but with the added competition this year I don't see him finshing as high as 5th in points again. Amazing that anyone thinks he has moto wins (plural) in him let alone the title. Maybe if RV and Dungey are forced to ride without goggles?

Valid point.
I believed this to be true until this SX season. He started out barely qualifying, even missed one. Throughout the year he got stronger and stronger and showed a new side of himself.

Even though he didn't have the success that he is accustomed to, I believe he developed wherewithal that will be invaluable to him in the future.

Then how do you think Reed will do? ...Mike seemingly had him covered in 09 prior to getting hurt.

I somewhat disagree about Alessi having Reed covered in '09 as Reed ran him down at Hangtown from way back but ran out of time. Don't forget, Reed was having that stomach issue that many still think was BS then as well. I think Reed will be 3rd or 4th regularly this year but in some real dogfights. Pourcel and Canard (when he returns) are going to be up there too. Metty? Windham? Holy shit. That is a lot of talent for Alessi to be dealing with. I also think that Mike is going to beat Short more often than not and that is not going to make KTM happy. They do not want Mike improving coming off the 350 and worse yet beating the top guy they have who is on the 350 now.

I think we'll see a new and improved MA this year. The 450 just suits him and that's the end of it. Though I pick Villopoto for the title, I can see Mike 3rd or 4th overall at the end of the year.

I would say he will pull atleast one holeshot and finish top 3 in atleast 1 moto today.. but then again he could also go 9-11 and go unnoticed. It just depends on which MA shows up. I'm hoping its the one we saw podium at Steel City in his second race on a 450 Honda

I have Alessi down as a slightly better outdoor rider than Short no matter what bike they ride.

Most people would agree that, for whatever reason, his head was in the wrong place last year wouldn't they?

Also, people mention Alessi running top three, winning races and even as a possible title contender... Im not knocking Short, I really like the guy, but when do you ever hear the same things spoken about him?

When he's on it Alessi is a machine, full of aggression, whereas Short is consistent but often seems a bit passive. I dunno, thats just my take on it. I hope Alessi gets his shit together, because this series is going to be epic and the more top riders in the mix the better!

Are you saying you believe the hype? Lol, I really think people expect more of alessi because of his amateur career and the alessi's do too! They seem to always find away to bring up how they smoked the field in the anateur ranks, which they did, but this is far from an amateur national, everyone on the line has at some point won a amateur national title.

How about he smoked RV pretty much his entire amateur career? Does that suit your argument?
