Anyone else having issues with the Fault 50 code? Five slow flashing lights. I accidently hit the start button while the motor was running. I hear its a dealer rest only as of now? Software issue>
I got so cold and tired on a ride I did the same thing fumbling with my kill switch, did you find any solution besides the dealer?
If the bike has new the 104 map it shouldn't set the light off by hitting the start button while running. If you've had the bike awhile I would suggest taking it to a dealer and letting them clear the code and update the map.
I sure hope that future bikes don't go down the John Deere route. Only the dealer can reset or repair the technology.
I’ve had it for less than two months, I thought it had been updated when I picked it up. 16 hours later and I guess not.🤷🏻♂️
After calling and running my VIN it appears my bike has the update like I thought but I still have the issue. I’m going to try disconnecting the battery over night and see if it clears.

John Deere, Mahindra tractor back to the dealer is the first thing I thought of too. If you start my Mahindra tractor 5 or 6 times in a row without letting the computer boot up which is really easy to do, it goes into limp mode and back to the dealer.
I wanted a 23 KTM 2 stroke, glad I went with Honda. I’m sure KTM will get the bugs worked out but I’d be frustrated, especially after paying premium KTM price.
Everything you mentioned was user error.
You have a Mahindra tractor?
Yep...but those errors shouldn't require a factory technician to remedy. Very costly and time consuming. How hard is it to install a "reset to factory default" button? Maybe it is...I don't know.
It’s just my guess, one of the reasons the error code can’t be a simple push button reset is because it may take a firmware download to fix it. I retired working for a large industrial tech firm and lots of our controllers, PLC’s, IO etc took a download to fix errors etc until a bug fix code change was developed. Code in some cases determines what can be cleared. Also one button on a handlebar is not the best user interface!
Does anybody know what the OBD dongle that they come with is used for? I’m guessing user diagnostics but I haven’t seen any info yet
There shouldn't need to be a download to clear a benign error code. It's very strange to me how locked down these EFI 2 strokes are.
It's almost as if they shipped these bikes knowing they weren't 100% "there" with their programming and need folks to bring the bikes in when something happens. Then they can record and fix the issues.
As far as whether people are ok with paying to be a test rider, that's up to them. I may end up back on a YZ in a couple years to avoid this noise... Though I'd love to try one these bikes if they can get them sorted.
The four strokes are locked also, and have been for a couple years. Nothing new
One would think it would be an easy fix but not always the case. If KTM is like most companies they may not open source code on a controller and do one or two fixes. They let the service guys take the heat/deal with it while development engineering gathers all the bugs. Then DE goes to R&D who owns the budget asking for funds who says the issues will be addressed in the next firmware release. In many cases may be in next years model. It may be a third party that developed the code and there is a pissing match going on. I’m just guessing. In my past technology life I’ve seen some pretty simple issues get convoluted beyond comprehension on things a lot more complex and critical than a dirt scooter.
Well I’ve managed to get the solid FI light off, typical disconnect the power cable ground it out and reconnect. I still get five flashes at startup tho. The dealer needed four days out to connect it to the KTM computer, I don’t have that much time so I’ll see how see runs on Sunday.
I hit my starter button while bike was running on accident last week, I seen a FI lite come on, then it was off when I restarted the bike.
If you plug in the supplied dongel, that is under the seat, it will power up the bike and flash any fault codes you might have consistently
4-days ?
I brought both my bikes in at the same time, they reflashed them both within 40 minutes and I was on the road. Haven’t seen any codes since
I have not made this error yet.
Pit Row
Believe me that’s what I was hoping for
My Beta came with one and you can use an OBD11 tool to see and clear codes. Can also see live Data. Don’t know about the KTM though.
I asked this in another thread that is not as popular as this one. But short of going to the dealer and asking if they have any new MAP updates, do you know if there is a way to get notified when MAP updates are available? I even went so far as to install the Husky app, but 2 strokes are not on there.
Thanks man!
I called the dealer, one of the service writers ran my vin to check for updates with KTM. I’m sure any ktm dealer will do that.
I got my 300 sx back (first one at my dealer) in November and had the start button fault code issue, took it in back then and they cleared it.
Took it in this week to have them do the update to fix that issue.
When they plugged my bike in, the system showed that a map update was also available and was put in.
They (dealer) weren't aware of any map update until they plugged in.
Yea, it's kinda BS. Unless it's a recall issue, most dealers will also charge to update to the new map as it's not "Mandatory". Sure would be nice if you could update yourself as they come out with new maps... Thankfully for me I have a great relationship with my dealer and will not have to pay to input the non-mandatory map... They also did not know there was a new map out until I mentioned it. KTM should be letting the dealers know.
