tbgonz Added a reply to Continued Acceleration While off the Throttle

I've taken apart this carburetor and cleaned it when I first got this bike. I don't know much about carbs though. Does this little gap inside at the bottom look normal? I checked my air boot and doesn't have any cracks or anything. I've never pulled reeds out before but seems easy enough, and I have a hunch they may...

Can you give an update on battery life that you've experienced? How long have you been able to go on each map? What is your goto map for tracks? Trails? I'm super curious about these bikes. Would love to have one one day.

Today while riding my throttle appeared to get stuck for a just a second. I initially attributed it to possible brief whiskey throttle since my forearms were tired, even though I was almost positive I was off the throttle. About 20 minutes later I'm off the side of the track and open the bike up to 4th gear. I let...

I was riding yesterday morning and the bike starts right up as usual. I took a breather and went to start the bike back up and it took quite a few kicks but finally started. This happened several times throughout the day. The last time I started it it had to have taken like 15 kicks before firing up. Feels...

tbgonz Started a new thread Refilling Rear Brake Fluid

4/3/2016 5:29pm
A CR250 I bought came a little low rear brake fluid. Brakes work just fine. Can I open the reservoir and just top off the brake fluid or do I need to bleed the brakes? The manual isn't very clear on whether just opening the cap and topping off is fine or not. Is bleeding the brakes only necessary if...

What's the trick with flushing it? My understanding is you don't want to run out of fluid so air doesn't get in the line, but if you put new fluid in to keep it from getting too low while bleeding the line aren't you really just mixing fluids and probably flushing out new fluid? I've never bleed brakes before and...

Good news for anyone who cares lol. The bike is fixed! Turns out a bolt holding the gears to the crankshaft was loose. If that thing had slipped out my engine would have been toast! This was also causing transmission oil to leak into the cylinder and cause the bike to run like crap. The bolt, crank seal and some...

I bought a 99 CR250 and was able to get a solid ride on it a few weeks ago. I've finally had time to do a post-ride maintenance. It smoked a good bit during my ride, a good amount of sponge coming from silencer that got all over my swingers (may just need to replace packing) and the power fell...

i finally just took it to a shop to figure out whats up once and for all. if the crank seal is leaking the dude was talking about rebuilding the whole motor with new gaskets/seals. is that normal? seems like it would be way more expensive than just replacing that bad seal. i understand fixing that one seal doesn't necessarily...

I think I've done everything shy of actually changing the crank seal to see if it helps with the smoke. It's time I bite the bullet and change that sucker isn't it? Here's a video from today after i repacked and cleaned a crazy amount of carbon out of my silencer. Not a whole lot of smoke when idling but...

tbgonz Started a new thread How to clean inside of 2 stroke pipe and silencer

I decided to change the packing on my silencer since it's leaked tons oil on my swing arm. Discovered it looks like the previous owner(s) hadn't ever repackaged the silencer. The carbon build up is crazy. I've been having to poke out the holes in the core bc they were so clogged. I'm like 60% thru but it's taking forever...

Where would you go to have that done? What kind of solvent would you use with it? I can't imagine straight up water being that great for the pipe and silencer unless I could dry the insides with compressed air or something.

I get that. I think it's from clutch use bc by the end of the day the other week my left hand was done. I'm just getting back into riding and I think I just need to strengthen those muscles.

just curious, has anyone taken their bikes to MMI (motorcycle repair school) for servicing? Curious if they would do labor for free. I'm curious if this is a good and cheap option if my skills end up subpar.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I have a service manual. I'll have to give it a good read and see how I feel. So from what I've read online its sounding like a right side crank seal issue. Ya'll agree this is the most likely culprit?

pulling the cylinder is a bit beyond my expertise, unfortunately. I've taken apart the carb, cleaned it out, adjusted the float and replaced a gasket. got the gas leak from the carb to stop. i think all that is good now. looking like right side crank seal may be the culprit. do they have to split the cases for that...
