1/3/2017 5:53pm tomm55x, another couple of things to watch are the motor mount bolts which can break and the footpegs. Mine would falloff at the worst possible moments. Get rid of the footpeg pins and use bolts with nylock nuts and some Loctite for an extra measure. If you spend some time getting the jetting correct, it will make a world of...

1/3/2017 5:40pm burker1307, General Cycle and Holders were two different dealers. General Cycle was in Lincoln Park and had a race team called "Team General". Some of their top riders were Kelly Heilbronn, Pete Brant, Paul Brant (Nat'l No. 6 in 1977), Nick Pelham and Dave Shinn. Holder's was in Owosso and had Denny Bentley, Danny Wallace, Glenn Holder.

9/29/2013 7:52pm Does anyone remember any of the riders from the Helmet House Race Team out of Illinois? I remember them showing up back in 1976 at a local practice track in Michigan with a big box van with some tricked out CR125s then they proceeded to smoke everyone.

1/24/2012 2:26pm Anyone have any pictures they can post of Ferrell McCoullough from Mayland who was the 1976 AMA 125 amateur champion and was also the 1977 AMA 250 champ on a Can-Am. I remember David Bailey saying he was one the the fastest amateurs around and he loved racing him because he was a tough to pass. I am not sure...

12/15/2011 5:22pm Jimmy was ranked 4th in 1979 racing one of those crappy CR125s with the 23" front wheel. I believe he had a Kawasaki support ride in 1980 and mainly rode a KX250. He won a few races local races, but I think his lack or results was due to too much partying and not so much the bike. I think...

12/12/2010 6:09am Ferrell, I went to the Gary Bailey MX School in 1978 in Axton, VA. and while talking with David Bailey, I asked him who was his toughest local rival and he said Ferrell McCollough. He also stated, "I love racing that guy, he never shuts off for the corners" . Pretty good comment on your speed from the "Little Professor"...

11/20/2010 6:24am Ernie Horvath rode a 1977 YZ80 that had a handmade fiberglass gas tank painted to look like a Husky. His uncle built the bike for him and I think he still has it. It looked really trick and many people thought that Husky was builing an 80cc bike, it looked that good.

9/26/2009 10:48am Mark, you are correct, that is the old Mt. Clemens track. You might remember me from that track as I won 90% of the 250B races there in 1980. I als won the District 14 250B championship the same year (blew out my knee in the latter part of the season and never raced again). I raced against your brother...

4/17/2016 2:20am Mark has a hillclimb racer before MX. In 1977 he was 3rd in District 14 250A on a Montesa. In 1978 he was Open National Champion and District 14 Open champ on a Montesa 360VB. In 1979 he stared the year on a Montesa 414VB then switched to a Yamaha YZ400. He finshed 2nd in District 14 to an unbeatable...

7/30/2008 6:19pm No not the same. The 1976 RM100 had a down pipe and was a five speed based on the 1975 RM125. The 1976 RM125 had an uppipe was a 6 speed. Google it and check images.
JimmyD123 Added a reply to 1982 KTM 250
7/30/2008 6:16pm 82 was the last year of the aircooled motor. Pretty good bike but watch the exhaust pipe mounting, I saw a few pipes come apart in the past. Kees van der Ven won the 1982 250 USGP on the same bike so not bad considering the rest of the top guys were on handmade factory bikes.

7/28/2008 6:39pm 3 Michigan riders in the top 10: Carlton, Hruska (who was runner up to David Bailey in 1978) and Kirk Bigelow. Kirk's brother, Kris finished 4th in the AMA 250 Nationals in 1981 (behind Donnie Hansen) after David Bailey's KX250 frame broke at the last national.

7/28/2008 6:35pm I don't think Barnett made it out of practice as his bike broke and he was a DNS.

4/16/2016 7:48pm The TM100 & 125 were the same bike except for the piston, rod, cylinder & head. Only 1hp difference between the two. As far as the RM 100 & RM 125 it depends on the year. The first year of the RM100 was 1976 and it was very close to the 1975 RM125. The 1977 and beyond RM100s shared the...
