What does everyone know about the 1982 KTM 250? I just picked one up yesterday for $100 dollars and couldn't pass it up. Can I buy parts for it? Was it a good bike back in the day? Not sure if this one runs or not but its all there.

82 was the last year of the aircooled motor. Pretty good bike but watch the exhaust pipe mounting, I saw a few pipes come apart in the past. Kees van der Ven won the 1982 250 USGP on the same bike so not bad considering the rest of the top guys were on handmade factory bikes.

Thanks for the info. This bike is water cooled with drum brakes. I better check the year again. Oh it has the cool rear fender/number plate combination.

I think they had a air cooled and water cooled bikes within the same year so you may be correct.

If it's a water pumper 250, it's an 83, just like the one I used to race.
Great bike btw.

Without any mechanical tuning or carb cleaning....I put some gas in it...and it started on the tenth kick. It's ugly but I at least it runs. Rode it down the street and the clutch is not engaging so maybe it could be the fiber plates have disintegrated from sitting around for so many years.

Sliced my foot and tennis shoe open when it slide off the kick started. I swear the kick starter is better suited for a kx60 than a 250. Kick starter is about 3inches wide so not much area for your foot to kick down on it.

Hey I bought the same bike about three weeks ago up here in redding except mine has no kick starter. I need to find that cool rear fender/number plate GP combo. Glad to hear it ran. I bumped mine in front of athe guys house when I bought it - he had beeen trying to start it for several weeks! $350 but mines a liitle bit cleaner with air cooling. It's good to see the pics because I am missing a few bits, can you post a pic of the other side too?

Definitely an 83"

oem clutch plates were sintered steel and worked better than any aftermarket replacements.

Looks pretty good, a little TLC and you'll have a nice bike there.

Check with Z-Racing to see what they may still have laying around for that year?

if the bike sat for a long time the clutch plates can dry out and stick together, have had that happen twice. I just cleaned and lightly sanded (400 grit) all the plates and they worked fine. or your plates could be shot (:
