It's been a good 5 years since I've had to walk in there.

Not as bad as IKEA. I can't count how many times traffic is near stopped on the 405 by the IKEA in Costa Mesa. The cause- an IKEA $39.00 entertainment center is spread over the freeway. I guess the complimentary twine didn't work...

I HATE IKEA! Once your in that place, you have to walk through the whole thing just to get out. Been there once, and that was it.

I'd rather go to Lowe's. Ours has a better selection than Home Depot. They're ok with prices for non-aesthetic stuff. For the aesthetic stuff (stone, counters, flooring, etc.), I'd rather look around at places that're not so "sterile" in design. My employer's house is really trick inside. They have some of the strangest stuff, and, surprisingly, it works great together. They even have corrugated metal sheet on the one wall of their one bathroom.

lowes and depot suck.

ive never seen so many employees try and get out of working. if you need help, they wont help you. and if you sit and watch, half the workforce is doing "laps" around the place acting like they have somewhere important to be.

lazy fucks.

The worst are the ones who insist on "helping" you. I feel like saying "if you had any fucking clue about anything you wouldn't be working at home depot".

I actually DO my job, if I see someone walking around, I ask if they need help. That is if I knew what some of them were talking about. A lot of Russians/Asians live around me with heavy accents. I had one guy ask for a 10'x8' sheet of plywood. And it doesn't help that my boss is satan in old midget polish bitch form. I'd like to just slam a 4x4 in her face.

Needed some wire once, so I had the wife walk out 50 ft. of it where they had it marked on the floor. As she crossed the aisle some employee comes running up to her to see if she needed help. When he turned and saw me at the other end of the wire , it was fucking priceless. I told him nobody ever offered before so why the fuck would you start now.

A week after having knee and shoulder surgery I walked into the local Sutherlands and asked the mgr. at the service desk if they could get me four bags of #4 blasting sand. He looks up to see me standing there with my arm in a sling and a leg brace from my ankle to my ass and proceeds to point to the appropriate aisle and then told me where the carts were. I think he was calling the cops as I was hobbling out.

Just yesterday at the Depot asked for help getting a gas grill off an upper pallet rack. Waited ten minutes for the goof to show up. While waiting , I had already gone and found the big rolling staircase and moved it into position. Plus I had already climbed up to verify the part number and figure out how I was going to get it down by myself. He shows up, climbs up and is checking it out. I leave to go get a cart. By the time I get back, he's gone. I wait a few minutes while looking around for him. Eventually I climb up, unwrap the pallet and muscle it into position for the descent down the stairs. As I'm standing in line to checkout I hear the forklift beep on by complete with a second goof walking in front of it waving a set of flags. Guy driving the forklift looks at me and my grill and it never registered. He just kept on going. Priceless again.

Supply and demand. People flock to stores like that, and it doesn't take customer service to entice them; the prices and convenience does it for them. However, not all of their employees are like that, at least near my place. I've met some really nice people more than willing to try their best at helping. I went to a Depot to research some GFI stuff for a clean energy project I'm doing, and there was a guy running the electrical department that had 30 years as a master electrician. Health knocked him out of the field, so now he's taking it relatively easy in a Depot. But, he was more than happy to help and offer his assistance in the future.

People are the same everywhere, pretty much. You get a-holes and you get nice people. Heck, this thread shows us that.

I fucking despise both of those stores. It is amazing how much shit is thrown all over the place, nothing is where it is supposed to be, lazy employees, sheetrock looks like 8 forklifts driven by retards smashed into it. Their trim is horse shit, they dont carry doug-fir plywood (only that yellow pine horseshit). Wanna buy a power tool there? Dont waste your time - somehow they get shitty knockoffs of the real stuff.

People will do anything just so they can pay 5 bucks less and walk into a "mega store". you get what you pay for I guess.

I'll stick to a regular old school lumber yard. Nothing better than backing your truck up into the yard and having the guys load your truck for you - with a fucking smile and a joke or two if you are lucky.

Tell me about it.

I'll go to Home Depot when

-They get rid of the assholes standing around in the parking lot
-They have a 2x4 that is straighter than my penis.
-They have 5/4 mahogany decking
-They have trim coil that isnt bent to shit
-They stop carrying dogshit trim make out of foam

Oh man, I gotta stop - I am getting all fired up over this.

If you're ever in Boulder, go to McGuckin's. It makes Ace look like Walmart.

My favorite thing to do at Sutherlands is buy pellets for my pellet stove. They always have 'em on pallets out front. I back my truck up and start loading (usually a ton in 40lb bags), while my kid goes into pay. So, almost immediately, some asshole will come over to verify my receipt. To which I reply that "nope, haven't paid yet". Round 'bout that time, my kid'll be back with the receipt. Being well trained, he'll say to the assmunch employee........"you must be the guy the manager said would load for us". They get sucked in every time. If you prepay.......you won't find an employee within a country mile.

Some old style lumber yards are a pain in the ass. They want to turn it into a 2 hour affair to pick up 30 or 40 studs. We have a yard down the street that I like. You drive through and load your own shit. No waiting. There's a guy that writes it up and you pay and leave. I really don't like the pay first and then go to the yard to find an available yard man stores. Sometimes I'll change my mind on the fly based on what's in stock. Then you have to go back the cashier and change the paperwork. It's a pain in the ass at the pay first yards. But it's better than Despot for lumber. Depot is quicker and cheaper for standard residential plumbing and electrical. If I need wire cut, I hand the list to the guy first thing and then go do my other shit. It's usually ready when I get back. It depends on the local store too. There are 6 Depots that I use but only one of them is any good. My 2 biggest complaints are those @#$%ing bar code labels that have to be sandblasted off and out of stock stuff that they should NEVER be out of like 1/2" copper 90's or 3/8 romex connectors.
