Are there any CPA's out there who can recommend an accounting software for a professional racer? I find QuickBooks to be very frustrating. Sorry if this isn't moto related enough.

It depends on what your trying to accomplish. If your only trying to manage your personal finances like paying bills and reconciling your check book, I would use quicken. It's way easier.

Just keep up with check book, follow investments, cash--nothing to in depth.

Thank you, I'll check it out.

Agree. For what you said you're doing Quickbooks actually doesn't make sense. Quicken has the tools to do what you want, and way better than Quickbooks.

If you were running a business that had inventory, payroll, invoicing, billing, and so on, then that's another story entirely.

Thank you everyone. I'm actually trying to use Quickbooks for another business and I'm very frustrated there as well. Going to have to switch.

what about GnuCash?

Its free open source accounting software that can be used on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

It looks pretty interesting and i'm thinking of giving it a try, anyone else used it before?

I think its cool they also have all the accounting documents for accounting Newbies on the site to basically teach you about accounting and how to use the software etc.

For a business, Quickbooks is very very good for the most part. It has it's flaws like any program, but it's very flexible in a lot of different areas and can work for a lot of different applications.

Quicken fan here as well.
One complaint, after about 3 years, they stop their online services (downloading credit card, bank statements, 401k info, etc) and if you want to continue services, you are forced to upgrade at another $80 (approx).

www.xero.com good honest easy to use New Zealand made accounting software.
Its all online like gmail to, so you can easily access it from anywhere with an internet-connection, you dont need to slug the same laptop round all the time.

Quickbooks has some advantages, such as their online program. We found it beneficial as our accountant could have access for tax purposes, etc. My wife is an accountant and we have to have external audits done, so it was good for that. But I would say for personal finances quicken is probably a little more user friendly.

I purchased quickbooks and was confused in setting it up and eventually found it no different than just putting the same info into my own spread sheet.

I also use my paypal account for almost everything and you can down load the complete history comma delimited so I dont even have to post things just cut and paste into the appropriate catagory.

I agree and didn't like the forced upgrade either. Other than that it has worked great for me for the last 5-6 years. I use it for my credit & debit cards, cash, savings, stocks, Roth IRA & 401(k).
