I'm sure there had to be something there to entice them (whether it was in their contracts or not. ). Wink
Anyways, some of those USGP races were legendary and I bet the guys that won them are glad they did them.

It would be cool if all the top teams here in the States would factor this race into their budgets & riders salary's and hit it up.

You know what would be nice if Youthstream would have got them to do that before having the race here.

I suppose they did talk and when YS got the answer they didn't want they came anyways.

I'll say it again , All the Teams and Sponsors knew this race was coming since last year, if it was important to them they would sign seal and deliver riders to the event and be letting everyone know how cool they were.

This is not happening and it's not fair to bash the riders for not racing it.
Yeah, these past 2 USGP's are definetly not as big of a deal here in the US like they used to be.
The sport has evolved here in the US and I think not having a GP here for many years took the thunder away, not to mention interest.
I always got the impression that when the foreign teams & riders came here ,the American teams & riders wanted to beat them any chance they got (and I would assume the pay day was nice when they did)....But those days are long gone.

Without there being any great incentive or start money etc...most of the big US teams will continue to pass on this event, prolly even if the rider wanted to really race it.

But maybe with time... things will change.

The USGP seems to have created a whole new level of interest about the GP series regardless of who turns up.

There is now a Valkensvaard GP links thread - going back a few years, this may not have existed. The races are now live on the internet and anyone in US can watch the races live mostly on a Sunday morning at the race track, cafe, home, wherever.

As interest grows in the GP's, so will sponsors and when sponsors get interested, you can bet the riders and teams will be. The USGP will be a great event without RV, Bubba and co and I'm gonna take the day off work and watch it.

Well, since the internet has gotten bigger and the evolution of live internet video & timing ,it has helped a lot.
There were a lot of us on Motonews a handful of years back or so that followed the World Championships even without the USGP. Also having an American rider in the series like Zach has helped a lot also.Or Alessi doing a few GP's a few years back or so.

I just wish there was more American involvement in the world championships as a whole....
Not to mention more involvement in the USGP.
But I guess money talks. Wink

Its also their job to get faster. What better warm up race than a GP? Surely time better spent than doing laps on a private practice track. Guess thats where pride gets in the way. Who wants to risk getting beaten by guys they've never heard of.

The only reason why US riders won't race the only race that holds national pride is that the USA has no national pride. There I said it. Millions in the us starve every day but we spend millions per day fighting "fake" wars. Fuck the usa. It's shit. The only people fighting the "wars" are doing it for a fucken paycheck not national pride. Money. Zero pride. That is the us 2011. Fuck the US. Lets moto!
Get the fuck out then. There I said it.

Why did Roczen race sx and risk injury prior to his GP title run? Hats off to him and taking a chance !

It was a way to get his feet wet here, before he goes full time here next year for KTM.
It seems like KTM (Everts & Decoster) really has a lot faith in the kid.....and I can see why. Wink

if one AMA guy races the GP, that cancels it out.

Get back to me when 15 of the top 20 GP regulars race Supercross.

Well my point being he took a risk of injury and could have gotten injured prior to a title chase. That was the excuse the americans were using why they were not going to ride theGP in the middle of a title run! Props to Roczen and Desalle.

Many of them should! Some would earn way more money. But they would have to give up the SoCal, and be willing to adapt to Europe, not the other way around.

Sure I'll paint your house for free as long as I don't pay for the equipment I'm using or materials. The event is catered and someone else does the preperation while all I do is move the brush. Then provide media coverage and promotion for my company. Oh yes and I only work for 30 minutes then rest and later I work for another 30 minutes. Whatever I get done is what you get. I may throw in a few extra minutes to equal timed practice. I will be there on Monday as long as someone sends a plane ticket. Congradulations MX has hit the bigtime its players are now acting like the stick and ball players sho'em the money or they aren't doing it. We have arrived Moto is mainstream.
I wouldn't race if I wasn't getting paid either. What if he gets hurt? Is kawi supplying the rig and bike? Oh thats right, lets have ryan load up his practice kx in the back of his pickup.

You're forgetting these guys race what they are contracted to race, and thats it.

A top factory mechanic told me that if you figured out his pay by the number of hours worked every week, he probably wouldn't reach minimum wage. I'm jealous that he gets to do what he does for a JOB!

This is true

it's an easier life for them here. if you stay in major areas you can get the same food and service any where in the country find places to ride, everyone speaks English lots of things are easier.

Racing GP's takes a different mind set and willingness to embrace change and still excel at the sport.

I think a lot has to do with KTM/Everts & Decoster trying to build the next big thing.
The kid is young and has many years a head of him and I would assume their goal in the long run is to breed the next big US champion.
In a sense they want him to get experience here and I assume the risk is worth it to them all.
They still have Herlings to cover them in the GP's if KR would have gotten banged up.
However, even riding on a Monday morning there is a risk of injury...
But I think to understand it ,you have to look at the big picture.

Our teams here do not try to breed GP world champs, they try to breed AMA SX & AMA MX Champs.
That is where their hearts are at.

Don't kid yourself.... the mechanics for the top guys make good money.

I know they work VERY hard, but they're compensated.

Roczen, Desalle and most others that come over are usually here to showcase their skills and increase their market value when the come over for good. I'd suggest Roczen has upped his value in a large way for future contract offers in the USA. Give me the upside to RV to race the USGP?

I never seen his actual contract, but I would assume, yes. Smile
From what I understand his deal with KTM was to do SX here in the States and then the GP's.
Next year,full time here.

(Also him jumping into the 450 SX class was a risk also all in it's own for that round)

He will be back in SLC & Vegas to finish out the SX series here.
(he is leading the mx2 world champ points right now,and hopefully still be after the NED round tomorrow)

Upside i guess would be seat time, whats the difference if he rides the GP or a practice track, risk of injury either place!

If it was that important to Monster this would have been resolved last year not a few weeks before the event.

What about the others ? Kawasaki only has 5 or 6 guy's total. I don't see any big names being asked or forced to race. No title, no money, no TV coverage and no spectators.

I like the GP's and all the riders why doesn't Luongo and Feld work together and make the GP guy's all race Vegas ?

Hell why doesn't Jack In the Box work with McDonalds and both sell a Jumbo Mac or a Mac Jumbo ?

Sorry Jay, but I just don't think like that. If people like Luongo and DC want to act as if they are in this for the love of the sport, then they should both live up to their bullshit.

I don't think it would hurt either one of them to work together for one fucking race.

Upside to RV racing GP

1) GP's are sponsored by Monster, so is RV
2) If RV rides, there is less chance of Red Bull rider winning the race
3) The fans want to see him race
4) If he races the GP, he will be really well prepared for the opener at Hangtown

Okay but lets not act like one or the other is the problem.

it's a two way street and so far the only thing happening is a reoccurring head on crash.

The only difference would be gaining experience in racing guys he hasn't really raced all that often....
It would also be good warm up race to get their ducks in a row before the Nationals start.
Sort of a competitive testing day.
But if the money isn't there,he or the team I would assume aint gonna work for free.
