Here's an idea.

Maybe Weston should buy a bike and a pick-up. Bam, problem solved. He'd have a bike and the ride he "needs". If he can't afford either, or to travel to the races, then a day job is something he should consider.

Sorry to be the asshole here, but someone had to be.
Your advice definitely has its place in this sport, but not in this instance. Weston deserves a paying gig, and as a contributing member of this forum Lou has every right to use it for networking purposes.

Might be easier for folks to do that if they had details, no?

I understand that. It seems like everyone has been coming on here begging for a ride from someone and, IMO, it's getting old. If he's good enough, the right people will notice him and take the appropriate steps in giving him the ride he "needs".
Lou is using this board to network.

Here's a real example of how it works:
Two weeks ago I was chatting with a man a Pala Raceway (networking).
He told me he has funds available to partially sponsor an outdoor team. I connected him with a team manager and they had a nice talk.
I then read this thread and sent the same man an e-mail this morning saying, "a solid pro named Weston Peick is looking for support for the Nationals."
To me, Weston is good enough and I have noticed him and I did take appropriate steps. But I wouldn't have known if Lou didn't post here.

See? Networking.

It cracks me up how people come on here and run there mouth about Bullshit. We are not begging for a ride we are letting the industrie know that are outdoor ride fell apart and we are now looking again. I went to Seattle last weekend and everyone still thought we had a ride. I need to look out for my sons best interest for his racing career I'm the one that helped him get to this point and I'm the one that will help him get to the next level. I f we dont get a ride we will buy one bike and race the Glen Helen G.P. if were ready and race about five nationals that we will drive to. Thanks everyone that understands.

No money to made in the outdoors guys. It cost more than you make in purse money, and it's also a lot tougher on the equipment. Peick has proved himself to be worthy rider, but it's really tough out there right now.

Good luck guys.

My, my. Well at least you admit what you are.

And I must say that considering the forum we are in, and other poster's responses being relatively civil, we need to turn it up a notch.

Fuck off and die you Bobby M leg stump sucking loser.

Are you sure about that? Plus I was referring to lumpy's comment "What a shame a top 10 rider is broke after 6 SX's" From what I understand, weinert is picking up the tab for his team. Hence my question, "what happened there?"
Weston & Les and many others have been paying their due$ for several years now.

Most of the Pro racers you see under an 18 wheeler awning are not paid a dime to race.....in fact they pay to be our entertainment! Only A tier teams like Factory, PC, FC Geico, riders get paid salary + expenses & bonus $$

Most riders pay all of their own expenses...... Licenses (rider & mechanic), Travel (flights or driving when close) Food, Mechanic, Bike, modifications, suspension, parts ect....... this all costs much more than they make back with racing results ........and on some teams the well to do rider pays $100k for the opportunity to be on the team.

Rock River, Jimmy Weinert Racing and many other B level teams offer the riders a nice comfortable relaxing place in the pits and transportation for the bikes but do not pay expenses. Teams like this are a HUGE help because this allows the racer time to train and practice instead of driving 1500-6000 miles a week sitting in a van with the bike. JWR brings more than most teams to the table by welcoming their riders into their 1st class training facility and training them during the week.

Ever notice how a good solid rider hits the Pro scene for 2-3 years with good results only to disappear? These guys are all going into debt chasing the Pro dream........until they can no longer afford to do it. It is a sad story I have seen for 20 years that often breaks up the family.

Some of you say.....get a job. Training and practicing at this level is a full time + over time ........it only pays in your results though. If the riders gets a part time job they have no time to train enough to perform at the top level. All SX & national race weekends require you to be at the track Friday at 7AM and Saturday with traveling in Thursday & Sunday. That leaves 3 days to work a 40 hour job. Oh wait its often a cross country drive and they have to drive for 2 or 3 days to get to the race......and 2 or 3 days back......where is there time for a job? This is where flying helps but wait.....the race winnings dont pay enough.....more negative income.

I often wonder how many times the IRS has audited a Professional MXer when looking at their taxes 95% loose money year after year.

Exactly,.....and it was out of the back of a van, under an easy-up with a little box fan!
It was a major reason he is where he is now. The other reasons are Marc, Lewis and Brooks!
Maybe you guys should give Merge a call.....

I totally respect what Lou is doing... NETWORKING!
Only unprofessional idiots would say that he is coming on here asking for handouts.
That does not sound like the case here... Lou is spreading the word that his son is available for employ.
In the aviation world, much like the rest of the world, and definitely the MX industry... IT'S NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW... IT'S ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW!!!!!
And that, sir, is networking.

I am a firm believer in networking and "who you know", plenty of my deals have gone down that way.

T-Fish, you need to take that shitty attitude of yours and give it a brush off, Lou was just getting the word out that Weston's ride fell through, nothing more, if you can't see that then there is no help for you.

Good luck Weston & Lou, hope that someone pulls through for you.

Lumpy thanks for the enlightenment, but you didn't answer my question. Les is racing for JWR for the SX season. Why isn't he or didn't he stick with them for the outdoors?

Ask LouDog if it seems like this post is going to help him out some?
No need for details, but as said above, you can't beat networking.

and Lou did not come in here asking for anything or begging for anything or post a paypal.
He only made notice that his rider, who was believed not available, is now available.

These guy who really don't race (or never did) just don't get it. My son, even being at the Amatuer level, benefited TREMENDOUSLY from the contacts and friends i've made here. That now will transition into his Pro career. I can't thank my friends here enough for the support.
Lou....don't ever think you have to justify what you do for your son. The few who made the negative comments do it on every thread. You know exactly what to do to help Weston. Good luck

And yes I believe JWR is getting ready for the outdoors. Joey is currently training down there for the next month or so and the teams there....thanks Jimmy for giving Joey the opportunity to stay. The place is Awesome!

When I talked with the Jammer at Jacksonville he said he would be going to the Amateur races with his son this summer. ......so there was no ride for Les or the rest......unless things have changed for JWR?

There are entire message boards dedicated to networking in the aviation piloting industry... over at forums.jetcareers.com we call it "paying it forward" or something to that effect.

That could be but they are training so possibly each are on their own? There is quite a few good riders staying there now

I think it's safe to say that gearheads are generally less professional than flyboys...

from what I hear they have and they are going to race as many nationals as possible. 2 450 riders and 1 250f rider.

You obviously don't know too many pilots then...
I've never met a bigger group of d-bags in my entire life as in the piloting community.
Don't get me wrong, I have met some of my best friends around the airport, but for the most part I don't even care to hang out with people who sit in the front seat.
Actually, it's just like the race track, you either meet really cool people or the biggest toolboxes on the planet, no in-between.
But the principles of networking are the very same no matter what the sport or profession... get your name out there to the right people in order to get the job. Since there isn't a forums.motocrosscareers.com then I suppose vitalmx.com will have to suffice.

I am not listening but I am reading... ;-)

We decided to go to the Nationals with Kyle and Tommy in 450. We'll also have Mariana Balbi for the 8 rounds of WMX. A 4th rider would mean to hire another mechanic and add a lot of expenses, bikes, parts, travel, entry fees etc... Nothing against Weston or/and Lou bu it's tough to justify getting another guy when there is no money or really small amount of money coming in for the team. MotoConcepts and Mike Genova are spending already a lot of money to go racing.
I think ya might have a machanic as part of the rider deal...(Lou, the man is damn near as resourceful as your resident South African that seems to be able to fix ANYTHING that ANY rider can break!)

Something that you can think about...

Westin ALWAYS produces outdoors and you'll NEVER hear him bitch, whine or moan.

Hell, the guy will actually walk up, shake your hand, have a grown-up conversation, say,"Thank You!" to you, a sponosor or his mechanic at the end of the day...and I've NEVER heard him blame anything or anyone (other than himself) for his results. Ever.

Put him on any decent team and he's pullin' off a top ten in the series.

I think he'd pass-out from disbelief if he ever got to actually test and have good practice bikes like the faster competition.

I'm jus' sayin'...

Note: Anyone that has a negative ass-hole shitty-assed thing to say about any of this, please, feel free to GFY since you obviuosly don't know the "What", "Who" or "Why" of what's going on here.
